Need help with Summer Project For a while now my youngest son (18) is been wanting to have a bonsai tree, we could go to a nursery and buy one, but I think it will be much more rewarding to plant his own, he really likes that idea better, so this is going to be one of our summer projects.Do any of you have experience on bonsais? Any tips? Suggestions will be highly appreciated! |
On my favorite gardening show, Gardening by the Yard, the expert say that it takes a couple of years to get it going. I've always wanted to try one myself but never had the patience. My neice gave my sister an bonsai azalea. It is really pretty. I have managed to kill 2 that were given to me-dried them to a crisp! Good luck and have fun with it.:) |
I know it's along process, but just think about how nice it will be years from now ( if it survives) and know that it's something he did. I know the TV show you are talking about. I'm sure he can get info. on line as well. Thanks |
My sister is in to Bosai trees. She had a lot but has been getting out of it now. She joined a Bonsai club at the botonical gardens and learned alot. Some nurseries also offer classes. Good luck on his project |
That sounds like a wonderful project. Good for him! |
My 22 year old son has in the past year started bonsai and is enjoying it tremendously. I've purchased many of the supplies, dirt, tools, etc. for his birthday and found them on ebay. One store was called Joe's Bonsai, I think. It was recommended to him to start with small cheap juniper bushes from Wal-mart or any nursery. It is a good idea for your son to join a local bonsai club if possible and there is a lot of information on the internet. |
