Where Is Our Compassion ? **warning Graphic Video I just saw this on the news and couldn't believe it. Hit-and-run victim left in street without help - CNN.com The TEXT news story is in the link - Your don't have to see the video unless you CLICK ON IT ...its graphic & sad .............but what gets me is ALL THE PEOPLE that didn't try to help this poor man :(:( What is happening with people ? What were they afraid of ? Why didn't they at least help get him out of the street ? WHY DIDN'T THEY DO ANYTHING ? Some people just WALKED BY HIS BODY ! |
That makes my heart ache. I have never understood the fear or anxiety people have about helping other people. Seems like people get so caught up in their own lives they just forget to he humane. Very sad :( |

I feel so bad for his family....now they have to see it played over and over on the news and watch those people do NOTHING :( |
I think it's the "Glad it wasn't ME" Syndrome......I could just see the thoughts of those people -...."poor guy - Glad that isn't ME layin in the street" wonder how they'd feel if THEY needed help and no one stepped up ? |
I can't believe that… My first instinct would be to GO to the man... geez, that's my first instinct when I see someone TRIP in the street, I always at least ask if they're okay. It's maddening to see all these people stand by and do nothing. |

Thats HORRIBLE!!!! Absolutely HORRIBLE!!! I swear, I dont know about people anymore! :( :( |
I am shocked and yet...NOT shocked! I was in the bank a few weeks back here in AZ - at US Bank, where I bank - and I'll name the bank bc they should be ashamed of themselves. I was filling out a deposit slip - and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a woman - about 55-60 yrs fall down on the floor - and I rushed over to help her. Granted, I'm a nurse - so I suppose it's natural - but I think it'd be natural ANYWAY! Not a SINGLE bank employee came over to help at all - the entire time. I sat w/ her by myself until the ambulance came. I was livid. |
I am ashamed to say that this happened in my home state and hubby and I were sick to our stomachs when we saw this on our local news and then on the Today Show. I must have watched that video at least a dozen times and can't believe that noone, NOONE came forward to help him. If you watch the video you will notice that both cars that hit him turned right after the impact and that a van pulled over to the right side of the road for a moment or two and then just too off! If this wasn't bad enough ... all those people walking on the sidewalk and noone comes over to him to offer assistance. This is disgusting and it's just one more reason for me to want to leave this state forever!!! |
so sad......that poor man! |
I saw that video yesterday. Kinda makes you wonder what has happened to mankind. Have we dehumanized ourselves so much that we choose not to help those in need? Terrible! |
That was on the Today's Show this morning. How very sad. :( They interviewed this mans son and there were tears running down his face. I hope the police find the person who did this. |
Oh wow...I have no words. :( |
The world we live in is so sad and cruel sometimes. I am just in shock that this could happen. About a year ago i was driving back from getting Daisy's meds from a downtown pharmacy and was driving and seen a very elderly lady take a nasty fall off the curb into the gutter. I had my 6 yr old son (at the time) with me i immediatly pulled over and we ran to assist her. 2 colledge boys got there just before i did and they picked her up. She was banged up really bad it was a nasty fall i am pretty sure she broke her arm and she hurt her hip. This woman was covered in mud and she was also very disoriented she didn't know where she was or what was going on. We cleaned her up and got her a chair from a local business while we were waiting for the ambulance. But i tell you not 1 other person stopped to help us. I wanted to teach my son that if someone is in trouble you stop to help and i think it really hit him. he felt bad for the lady but he was very proud he helped her (he retrieved her purse and held it for her). I am ashamed of society and their carelessness anymore. Everyone is out for themselves and it is really sad:( |

It is also called defused responsibility. If one person had gone to help and called to others for help it probably would have been different. When I teach CPR I always instruct my students to point their finger at an individual and say "You go call 911" and if there are more people "You go with him." I didn't know the poor man died. I had heard he was paralyzed from the neck down. This is so very sad. There were four cell phone calls that came in to 911 within a couple of minutes of the accident though. Someone TRIED to help. I hope they can digitally enhance the licence plates of the car that hit him and the ones that drove by. The ones that drove by should at least be told off. The hit and run needs to be punished. |
I was just sick to my stomach when I saw this on msnbc. I just couldn't believe people's reactions:eek::eek:or in other words, people's LACK of reactions! I'm thinking to myself, people that was a BODY that was being tossled around in air and is now laying there which nobody was approaching. They did say that 4 people called 911 from their cell phones....but sure no human interaction with the victim from what I saw quickly on the news. The poor son of the man couldn't even finish his interview....I felt SO BAD for him. I thought I had heard though that the victim is paralyzed from the neck down? so he is still alive? Yes this is one of the saddest things I had ever seen too.....where is the caring and compassion? |
I saw this on the news this a.m. and I just kept looking with my mouth open..thinking...what are they all doing...walking by, driving right by...I just could not believe it...thought it was a stunt for TV or something....SO VERY SAD! |
I couldn't believe that also!! What is happening to people? Don't they have any compassion or morals left?!! Doesn't anyone know right from wrong anymore?!! Ughhhhh?:mad: |
Sad. Shameful. Depressing. I have asked myself, how is it that so many can be so non-responsive to another human being in such a situation? I have no answer. It is far beyond my comprehension and I am saddened and ashamed that we, as a people, have arrived at this point. There were far to many people there for this to have happened. I suppose I could understand a couple of uncaring attitudes, but that many, all in the same place at the same time? I rolled my truck some years back. I was on my way home from work at about one in the morning. It rolled end to end and side to side and ended up in a field and wasn't visible from the road. It was a very winding road out in the country. To this day, I don't know what happened. I was covered in blood wandering around on the highway in a state of shock. About ten cars passed, gawked and drove on. Finally some folks on their way home from an out of town Christian event stopped. Wrapped me in a quilt they had in their and took me to the hospital. When I was better, I met with all of them to express my gratitude for their actions. They were/are wonderful people. __________________________________________________ ______ |
We were talking about this in work today and I honestly don't get it. I know that I would have been out there stopping traffic at the very least and calling 911 on my cell phone. There is a big difference between wanting to get involved in a situation where someone is shooting someone else or where two burly guys are having I fight. In those cases I might not be wanting to intervene - but a person hit by a car?!? I just don't get it. |

I didn't know the man lived - when I saw the reports I was so in shock I assumed he didn't make it. I know people called 911 but not one person went to him to even just hold his hand - It really made me sick to watch Wylie's Mom - GOOD FOR YOU ! and you too amber_lv....and sammiz OMG ! That's awful ! I can't believe no one stopped |
I just saw on inside edition that the guy is in ICU fighting for his life with head injuries. Maybe because I live in the south, or maybe its because I live in a small town, but when my jeep hydroplaned and ran off the road into a tree the third car that passed by stopped (i honestly don't think the first two saw), then 4 more cars stopped to see how they could help. It was pouring rain and two different people stood out in the rain beside my window talking to me to try to keep me conscious and from freaking out until my mom and the ambulance got there (mom beat the ambulance to the scene). |

What a horrible and sad thing to happen. I think it just shows what is happening to our society. I really believe as time goes on things are going to get worse and worse and if people can abuse and neglect animals they way they do, what makes us think people are not next. You see it everyday. People are out for NO.1 and could care less how they treat their fellow man. I hate to see what this world is going to be like even in another 10yrs. |

I haven't seen the video or read the article because I'm a little scared to. |
V I was so shocked and disgusted when I saw that yesterday. I mean for the love of god how could you walk by the man and not get him help. It amazes me how callous people have become now a days. |
They showed this on our National news here in the UK this evening...its TERRIBLE! |
I saw this earlier today and it made me so sad. I read that one of the bystanders said they didn't approach because they didn't feel qualified to help him (I'm paraphrasing):eek::eek: You aren't qualified so you didn't approach him??? How about go hold his hand and talk to him???!!!! It really is disgusting. I hope those people never need a stranger to come to their aid. |

Ugh...that is disgusting! Just horrible. I just can't imagine how that poor man felt (if he was even concious). I remember when I was really young my mom, brother, and I were walking on some back roads to my brother's boy scout car derby thing. and we were walking on some messed up sidewalks, and my mom tripped on one and fell and broke her arm. People ran to her immedietly, and it makes me sad to think that now (just about 8 years later) most people wouldn't even blink an eye. |
