My Big Fat Post *sigh* I am having to suck it up and accept the fact that I have let myself get fat. I am no longer a little overweight, somewhat plump, or slightly chubby. I am FAT. What makes it worse is that its all my fault. I've tried blaming it on kids and a hysterectomy but the truth is my youngest is 5 now and my hysterectomy was 2 years ago. I have not been working out and I've been scarfing down anything that didn't contain animal products - regardless of the calories. As a result I got up this morning and could not button the last pair of pants I own that fit. So I guess I'm going to have to get off my fat butt, start using some of the exercise equipment/DVDs I've bought, start drinking more water, and watching how much I eat. I'm only 5' 3" and carrying around this extra weight is hard on me - especially on my knees. My goal is to lose as much as I can (in a healthy way) by my 33rd birthday which is March 30, 2009. I can do this. I know I can. Its just a matter of putting down the smoothies and picking up the water bottle and taking a walk instead of a nap. |
Even though the hysterectomy was 2 years ago it has changed your body. Whenever you do anything that affects your endo system and other systems in your body it takes it's toll. Don't beat yourself up over it. Just try to get in a bit more exercise now that the weather is better and you can also maybe look at what your eating. Having young children we don't realize the things that they like to eat is not necessarily that good for us to eat. Sending you a big old hug. I have a few lbs I want to lose myself. |
Good luck! I'm also carrying around some extra weight on my 5'3 frame. I'm no longer in the healthy weight range for my height and am in the overwieght range now, which I'm not happy about. I really need to start an exercise and diet plan. Let me know if you find a good one. Maybe we can start our own like Biggest Loser type of thing on the site. |
Can I join the club? I've been trying for so long to lose weight and it just seems like such a hurdle - so I give up! Good luck to all of you. I hope you all reach your goals. :) |
Sure. Anyone who has any good diet plans or exercise plans that they have used please post! |
If it's any consolation I did too have a hysterectomy done two years ago,not only I have gain weight but "in the wrong places"my cellulites is killing me, well not really, since is on my butt, I can't see it :D, but yes, because of the sudden hormonal changes your body goes through you do gain weight, healthy diet and exercise is the best thing to do....but come on...who are we kidding...I seat in front of this computer and always keep a "snack"handy, walking right after dinner is helping a lot.I've been paying Lady of America for 6 years, for the last 2 I could very well say I've been rubbed!! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress |
LOL girl - I'm sorry for laughing but your post tickled me....you can do it girl !! I know you can.:thumbup: It sucks trying to lose and I don't have any good advise except fill up on veggies before meals and space them out so you eat just a little but often. I lost weight after my husband died and I guess got too thin (I don't think so but others do) for dinner - I eat is 'SMART ONES' by Weight watchers cause I can't cook for only me :(- but - they're pretty good even being low cal - then there's always Weight watchers - I've read that alot of people get great results. |
So far out of EVERYTHING I've seen Atkins Carbs No Carbs Weight W. Jenny Craig NutriSystem Cabagge Soup -I did it, a lost weight, but it's hard to keep up! South beach Diet, to me is the one doable and sensible priced, you go on line, get your recipes and buy the stuff at the groceries, no club membership, no pre packed food |
My problem is that I am really good at knowing and planning what I need to do. Its the execution I have trouble with. LOL I am also really good at being super excited and all systems go full steam ahead - for about 2 or 3 days. Then I quit. I have also been known to turn the dial on the scale back so I can convince myself I've lost 10 pounds (if the scale says it, its true no matter what right?) that way I don't have to feel guilty about not working out and finishing off the container of Tofutti. So what I NEED is someone to stand behind me and literally kick me in my puh-squishy (that's what the kids have nicknamed my butt) everytime I try to be sneaky and/or quit. |
Hi ... so me and Hubby already have a Plan ... we bought us Mountain Bikes ... don"t see any Progress yet but hey ... it"s fun .... ;) I am a shorty too and could lose 5 to 8 lbs .... |
I wish I lived there~ I know I can tell you exactly what to do and how to do it, what to eat and when, what supplements to take and how to work out, but like you say; you KNOW that and can make a great plan~ it's just committing to it and sticking with it that's the hard part! I wish there was something I could do to help. Maybe if I tell you that no matter WHAT it is, no matter HOW good someone is at doing something, it's NEVER easy. Lance Armstrong makes it look easy when he's riding up those Alps~ most of us wouldn't even be able to WALK up those grades, and he's not only doing it on a bike, he's going relatively FAST. But it's not EASY for him to do that; he's SUFFERING just like we do at other things; he's just got his mind in a different place. And that's what you need to do~ get your mind to the place where you are convinced that you are WORTH it and it's not just for vanity's sake; it's not healthy to be overweight and there are real dangers associated with it. It WILL catch up with you and you've got children and doggies to live for; it's not just important to you; it's important to them too. I also have a little drink you can drink for a week (7 days) to get you at least started. It's just a diuretic drink, but maybe just losing even some water weight will give you a little push in the right direction:). This is from Jillian Michaels~ Mix: 60 oz. Distilled Water 2 TB. sugar free cranberry juice 1 Dandelion Root tea bag (Vons, Safeway or health food stores usually have these) 1 TB lemon juice. Drink this each day for 7 days. She guarantees you'll lose 5 lbs of water weight by the end of the week. Good luck to you, I know it's not easy to get motivated, but it's so worth it in the end! Just think...new clothes (or just getting back into the ones you really like!). |
I woke up fat again a couple of months ago. Although I haven't had a hysterectomy, I'll be 46 this year and my metabolism just doesn't work the way it used to. I've been able to lose weight on diets (pretty quickly, in fact) all of my life, but I always eventually put the weight back on. I decided that in my case, the answer wasn't dieting this time. I'm changing the way I live. The weight is coming off slower, but will hopefully stay off this time. I've never been a breakfast person, so I don't eat until lunchtime. I eat the same things I ate before, just smaller portions and no seconds. A Lean Cuisine or a Smart Ones for dinner and at night, some fat-free pretzels and a diet pudding for a snack. The single biggest change that I've made is that Basil and I started walking 2 miles a day at the beginning of April. I feel SO MUCH BETTER and I've lost 18 pounds as of today. I'm strict during the week, but I cheat on weekends and eat whatever I want. I just can't eat the portions that I used to. So far, this is working great for me and it's a very liveable lifestyle. Good luck--I know how hard it is to lose weight, but once you get started, your own progress will be your biggest inspiration! |
WOW 18 lbs:thumbup:Good for you! |
Hey, 5'3" too!! :) I work out on the treadmill at least 5 times a week, 1 mile plus each time, but my problem is that I have a total sugar addiction, I just don't know how to kick it. Otherwise I don't eat much. I need help girls! How do I stop? |

You sound just like me! I was going to start a diet in January.. I've gained 10 lbs since then b/c I kept indulging, telling myself that i'd start the diet tomorrow. Or i'd do the diet well for a few days, then reward myself..and never get back on the diet. I don't even want to think about how many bags of half eaten baby spinach I've thrown out since January. |
I have tried using Suzanne Sommers' way - Sommerizing. It is kinda a mix of The Zone, Glycemic, etc. The thing is eat the right food together and you can eat all you want. You have to eat in order to lose weight. I tried it few years ago, and it really worked for me. I am 5'2" and weight 113 lbs. I am an Asian and I am considered a bit fat. So I think I will get back to the Sommerizing and add a little bit of exerciese, I hope to lose just 3 lbs, most importantly is my TUMMY!!!! |
Well I've been up a little over an hour and so far I've had a glass of water and a yummy smoothie that contains: 1c vanilla soy milk 1/4c orange juice 1/4c refrigerated egg replacement product (I use the kind that contains no actual eggs) 1 - 2 TBS honey Blend in blender for approx 10 seconds then add: 1/2c diced mango (I buy the frozen kind because its easier) 1/2c berries of your choice (I prefer strawberries but DH likes blueberries) Blend until smooth, pour into a glass and enjoy. You can also had a little more OJ if its too thick for you. The water is the hard part for me. I hate the stuff lol it isn't really the taste I don't like, its the lack of caffeine. I have a MAJOR caffeine addiction. In fact I haven't had any since I woke up and I'm already starting to get a headache. |
Hang in there :thumbup:You can do it!!! We all have gained weight over the years. I too had a hysterectomy last Spring. Your body goes through some crazy changes after that surgery. Life is always throwing us curves, and with that we develope curves. Thats my motto.LOL Do the things that make you feel good. Walk your pups with you. I just tweaked my carb intake, and walk with my pups and I feel great and have lost some weight. Don't set goals that are too much on you. You'll be surprised what a little change does. Good Luck:aimeeyork |
I'm in the same boat as most of you all. I had a hysterectomy a few years back due to OVCA and then had so many blockages and subsequent surgeries to correct them that it really screwed up my metabolism. During that time I had the dreaded NG tube and could not eat for weeks at a time. So, when my body finally allowed me to eat .... I did. I am 52 and with all these body changes I have put on an extra 20-25 lbs that I need to take off to become healthier. I realize that I am not expected, nor can I possibly try to attain that body that I had even 20 years ago, I just want to become healthier with more energy and perhaps be able to put on a pair of shorts again without feeling self conscious. I wish you luck with your goal and I know that you can do this, just by the conviction I feel in your posting ! |
Hey what is this I'm 5' 3" and I have 10 lbs I'd sure like to get rid of and can't seem to lose. I walk a mile or two every day depending how the weather is. I walk alot inside when the weather is bad, love fruits and veggies and eat healthy. I try to stay away from salt so frozen dinners don't work for me. Really diets don't work for me period. If I am on a diet, all I do is think of food and for me just eating healthy all the time is the answer. I do so many things right and can't get it down but I keep thinking of what I could weigh if I wasn't doing what I am doing. |

Have an idea I like to propose something if you all agree... Since we are pretty much in the same boat, I'm sure there are some guys that even if they have had a hysterectomy(ha)also have a few pounds to spare,What about if we all get together , we weight our selves ( we have to post it here ) and start in a ... 1 week plan, we all try to do something, either walking, eating healthier or all of the above, by the end of that one week we all post again our new weights, even if we don't loose anything it'll keep our minds in something positive. We can each give us support and share tips, no winners, no loosers, just a little step in the right direction. What do you all think? |
Did I kill this thread with the diet proposal??? |
I have lost 46lbs doing Weight Watchers and I started in January. I personally love Weight Watchers and if you follow it, it is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. I dont go to the meetings anymore. I cant afford to pay 40 per month just to weigh but I still follow the plan. It has taught me to make healthier decisions, portion control, and even helped with my stress eating. I also do different exercises. This month we are doing kick boxing and toning at work. I still plan on losing more but know its a slow process. I cheat and if I am craving Mexican food... then I eat it. If I am craving a big mac then I eat it -- I just dont do it all the time. Im very strict during the week. If you want more info on WW just let me know! |
