I dont know what to do.... so my Dads Dad died this past thursday morning... and the funeral is a week from today.... and I cant go... because I have Gracie... I cant leave her here with my hubby because hes working ALL day! and Im always with her! and I get stressed out if I even leave her for an hour... so... my Dads side of the Family lives in Sacramento and the funeral is in Freemont wich is 2-3 hours away....and they are all planning on staying the night in Freemont Sat. night or else I would just leave her at one of my aunts houses.... so I dont know what Im going to do... I guess Im just not going to go... Im a little sad because I wanted to see my brother and his wife and their new baby! and I havent seen him or any of my Dads side of the family for FOREVER... but I'll get over it... thanks for letting me vent... |
Do you have any friends that can watch her for you? or, maybe leaving her at a boarding facility? what about your in laws, do the live close by, maybe they can help you? Just giving you options. :) |
Would you be driving? If so why don't you take her with you? I am so very sorry about your loss. |

I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how difficult it is when we are put in a situation that is hard to decipher. My suggestion would be to have hubby put her in daycare during the day and pick her up when he is through with work. Would/could this be a possibility? |

I would take her and maybe leave her in the hotel while you are at the funeral. It wouldn't be that long. Do you have a stroller? If so maybe you could sit at the back of the church and take her. |
Can you find a hotel that accepts pets and leave her there in a crate for a few hours with a "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on the door? That's what I would do. I'd have regrets missing my Grandfather's funeral and I can't think of another solution. |
For your dad's sake and for your own peace of mind - do whatever you need to do to attend the funeral...if you haven't seen your family in that long then I would go (just my opinion).....there's options and people have mentioned several already....if you can get a pet friendly room you may be ok - but if she's with you this much she may cry. my advice to you is - try to let her be more independent - it does her no favors to have you there 24/7 - believe me - my girls got so used to me being home alot when my husband was alive now they're devestated when I work - every single morning. and I'm sorry about your grandfather |
I agree with Vee, I would do everything I could to attend the funeral. If you leave your furbaby alone for a few hours I'm sure she'll be fine. You don't want to regret not going afterwards. |
I would board her to make it to my dads funeral. Im sorry about your loss. I hate leaving my babies, but some situations call for it and to me this would be one of them. I hope you can find a friend or someone to watch your baby or a boarding facility for one night. Or just leave her home during the day, hubby will be home at night right? She'll be fine gated into a room with her 'stuff' til he gets home from work. |

Take her with you and put her in the x-pen, put the do not disturb sign on the hotel door, go to the furneral then go back and check on her then on to the dinner afterwards. It will mean so much to your dad and family and also your deceased grandfather. I am so sorry for your loss. I feel very strong that you'll have regrets after and you don't want that. Have a safe trip. |

I am so sorry for your loss, but I definitely agree with this.. it is your decision but IMO I think you should definitely go. I know it is hard to leave your dog but believe me, she won't be "traumatized for life" or anything if you are not with her for a few hours.. it was the hardest thing for me to even go on vacation because I have never been away from Princess for more than 2 days and I had to go for 2 weeks.. but she is fine and when I came back she was extra excited and then it was as if we had never been apart.. so don't worry about her too much and I think you should go |
