Easy sewing pattern to start out with. Ok I need to start somewhere. What is the 1st thing you learned to sew? What should I start with? I would like to do something for the furkids. Remember I am talking super super simple here:D No plans for tonight and might as well get the machine out:p Any thoughts? |
Go here for an easy beginner pattern: Free Resizable Dog Clothing Pattern The chihuahua in the picture has a red plaid one on. It is super easy to make. Try it! |
Today and tomorrow at JoAnn Fabrics, they have Simplicity patterns $1 each. They have lot's of doggy ones and they don't seem to be very difficult. :D |

If you want something REALLY simple, why not start with a fringed bandana..... Measure your furbutts neck(s) and then draw a triangle on a piece of paper -- make two ends longer so that you can tie a nice bow. This is your pattern. Cut two pieces out, pin them together with the WRONG sides together (one right side will face up the other will face down) sew a 1/2 seam all the way around and there you have it. You can fringe the bandana out or just let it fringe naturally. |

when I had my Kloey, I wanted to make her panties, this was before I had my sewing machine, so I made them and sewed them by hand! UGH! Thank god for sewing machines! |
If you haven't had a home ec class in middle or high school like me...then it may be easier to start with simple pillows. I made 100's of different shaped pillows until I became a pro (and bored) then I moved to blankets..mainly baby blankets and slowly went to different valances, clothing, etc. patterns. Good luck! I absolutely love to sew...just wish I had more time and space to do it! |
ok i have the "free resizable dog pattern" link added to my faves..thank you Sammiz! :) Going to JoAnn Fabrics to pick up some Simplicity patterns tomorrow, I like dollar deals, lol!...Thanks 2Parises! :) BTW I love that pic of Paris standing there wrapped in newsprint! she looked like "come on already get this done"!! Going to try one of Cindy's bandanas tomorrow morning ....Thanks chattiesmom! :) Yougetthesmiles, I'm going to need a lot of practice before the panties, lmao! those might be a while! ;) erickajm...yes I took home ec 1 in 10th grade. We hand sewed a stuffed bunny rabbit, LMAO!!! like I will ever need to know how to make stuffed animals in life, let alone a bunny rabbit! Funny thing is I still have it ;) But the throw pillows sound good. we can never have too many of those here at our house..... Thanks! Great responses everyone. I appreciate them and your help in my new hobby :) |
The first time I tried to sew anything I bought some fleece from Joanns and made a pillow. Then I tried to sew a baby blanket with satin binding. I didn't miter the corners correctly:rolleyes: but my baby's have a new blankie.:) I did buy a beginners sewing book, which has helped a lot. I also subscribe to about.com. Here are some beginner sewing projects. Happy sewing!:D Sewing Projects Index - Simple, Quick Beginner Sewing Projects |
