Need Savannah and Charleston Restaurant Recommendations I'm going to Charleston, SC and to Savannah, GA this weekend. I was just wondering if anyone is from there and knows of some good restaurants or things we have to go and see. Let me know!! Teddi is not coming me me :( My friends booked the hotel and they don't take dogs. |
The next time I'm in Savannah I want to try The Lady & Sons - Paula Deen's place. I heard it's pretty good. :) Have fun whatever you decide to do. |
Paula Absolutely!!!!!! |
That's a great place! Also, on Riverstreet, there's a place called The Riverstreet Oyster Bar. If you're standing with your back to the river, it's on the left side of Riverstreet. They have the BEST seafood. It's always fresh and there are guys in a window front shucking oysters. My husband and I always ate there when we went to Savannah. Also, if you like 'em, there's an awesome flea market called Keller's Flea Market. It's huge and has anything and everything. It's on Ogeechee Rd. I bought a china service for 12, complete with serving pieces for $25.00 a couple of years ago. Enjoy your trip. Savannah is my favorite place! |
In Charleston, go to Shem Creek. That's where all the seafood restaurants are. |
I loved Paula Deen's place! But expect to get there before 9 am, I believe. They only serve lunch and dinner but they start taking names early. We stood in line for what seemed like forever to add our name to the list. You generally get to pick a time and then come back at your appointed time from what I remember. My DH didn't like it that well but I thought it was very good. But I LOVE Paula Deen. She and her brother also have a seafood restauarant on the way to Tybee Island. I didn't care for it as much but DH loved it. |
The Lady and sons is great! If you are willing to travel a tiny bit, The Crab Shack on Tybee is AWESOME! I love the relaxed atmosphere there. Last time I went, The Pirates House was good.. buts that been several years ago, it might not be as great now. The Chart House is great if you want more upscale. I'm not sure about Charleston restaurants, I haven't been to charleston since I was a kid. |
Thank you all for your suggestions....I think we will definitely go to The Lady & Sons!!! Hoping to just relax some too! I can't wait. Also, I hope the weather is good because it is beautiful and warm here in CA right now! |
I'm a flight attendant and years ago we used to layover in Savannah (my favorite l/o by the way) and we used to love to go to Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House for lunch. It was down home southern cooking served family style around large table with about 12 people. You passed all the dishes around like it was Thanksgiving!! The best food, totally fattening!! Don't know if it is still there though! |
At my suggestion my sister went to Savannah over xmass, she went to the Lady & Sons and said it was fabulous. Only negative is the long line. |
Sending you a PM right now ;) |
I just wanted to post this in case anyone's ever looking for a great restaurant (or 20 ) in Charleston. I sent this in a PM to Ronda, but thought I would post it here for other too... As always, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, these are my reviews: First I'll start off with my anti-review...DO NOT GO TO :thumbdown HYMAN'S RESTAURANT! :thumbdown It is a total tourist trap, and you'll wait for two hours for mediocre food. They say "it's where the locals go"...THEY'RE LYING! It sucks! lol If you like steak and want to visit the most expensive restaurant in Charleston, my boyfriend recommends Oak Steakhouse (I've never been but he RANTS & RAVES about it all the time...why we haven't been yet, I don't know! lol) A couple other fine dining type places are Carolinas and Magnolia's. I've been to both and had fantastic food, but it is a little spendy. Something for fun and an outdoorsy-seafood-type restaurant, I would recommend something like Gilligan's or one of the restaurants on Shem Creek (Shem Creek Bar & Grille, Vickery's, Red's Icehouse, etc that's just to name a few of them on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant. For SOUTHERN-style home cooking, I recommend Jestine's kitchen (can be QUITE busy for lunch). If you want something more typical (not ALL seafood like most places), like a nice Applebee's, I recommend California Dreaming (beautiful views too!) If you feel like Italian (definitely NOT Charleston's specialty), there is one great place to go, The Red Pepper. And lastly, for a GREAT breakfast or lunch downtown, Joseph's is one of my favorites! Everything is so fresh and reasonably priced, and I've been there a few times and always had phenomenal food! One more thing---Mustard Seed in Mount Pleasant. It is again reasonably priced and quite similar to Joseph's in my opinion---great lunch! So I hope that gave you a bunch of great ideas for food :D There are wayyyyyyy too many places to eat here...seriously! |
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I think we will be eating our way through Charleston!!! |
I'm pretty sure that Savannah or Charleston one would have a Texas Roadhouse...which is pretty much the best place ever! Lol...we don't have them out here in WA so anytime I hear of someone going to the South I always have to recommend it. |
