Going to the Virgin Islands! Anybody been there? We're going to St. Croix next month for my wife's stepson's wedding. They are literally going to get married, then hop on their own yacht for a one-year cruise. I have no idea how they can afford it, but if I wasn't prone to seasickness I'd be jealous as heck. I remember one time seeing a YTer from the Virgin Islands. Anybody remember who that was and where they lived? I might need a Yorkie fix, because the three boys have to stay home this time. :( |
I have been there. A friend had a yacht there, and we sailed around for a week. it was fabulous. My favorite place was the Soggy Dollar Bar. I forget what island it was on. They didn't have a dock, so you have to stuff all your money in your bathing suit and swim to shore....(you could take the dinghy, but that wouldn't be the same). Eating out is pretty expensive, but my friends had expensive taste. I think there are some reasonable options. I never did go to the USVI, unfortunately. I am a former sailor, and have a lot of friends who have done the round-the-world cruise thing. There was a time when I really wanted to do it also, but now I think I would go a little crazy confined to a 50 foot (at best) sailboat. I hope you have a wonderful time! |
I've never been but it sounds like a lot of fun! |

I never thought their adventure would happen. I figured it was one of those dreams that everyone has that never quite comes together. Neither one had much sailing experience two years ago when they started making plans. They studied, left Alaska for some kind of course where they got certification to sail solo. They bought a boat, though I can't remember what size. And now it looks like they're going through with it. To be honest, I won't believe it till I see it -- and that gives me a great excuse to go to the Virgin Islands! |
Please take lots of pictures when you go---I would like to see the boat too. |
Have a great time and a save trip , hmm I'm so jealous.;) |
Wish I could remember who that member is, cause I definitely remember someone!!!! I've not been to St. Croix but have been to St. Lucia. LOVED everything about it. I, too, have major motion sickness. In fact, I take prescription medication for flying, bus/train travel and I generally avoid boats of all kinds on all bodies of water if I can help it!!!!!! |

3 Attachment(s) I am an insurance adjuster and actually got a hurricane claim on St. Thomas several years ago! We took about 45 minutes to work the claim and stayed for 4 days! :D LOVED it and want to go back someday! It was great and all it cost us was our room and food as the insurance company paid for our airline tickets...hubby is an adjuster too! :D We snorkled half a day our last day there and it was wonderful! Here are a few pics of our time there! Hope you have fun...and yeah, lots of pics please! |

I made it to Puerto Rico and St. Thomas (where I got to ride Tom Jones:D - story includes a borrowed car, an islander, a donkey, a mountaintop, a camera and $5.00);). I have a friend that lives on St. John. It's so beautiful there. Have a safe trip, lot of fun and take bunches of pics! |
A one-YEAR cruise!? Holy cow! That's so cool! I loove the ocean. I'm mad jelous of them. Have fun, Mike! Take lots of pics! |
Mike, Lisa (Sukoshi's Mom) and her husband Matt got married on the beach at Magen's Bay, St Thomas, USVI on July 31, 2006! We took a cruise from Puerto Rico, the first stop being St Thomas and then the rest of the cruise was honeymoon for them and vacation for us. It was awesome. The most beautiful wedding I have ever been to. |
4 Attachment(s) I hope Lisa doesn't mind but here are some pics from their special day..... #1...Mr & Mrs #2...Cutting the cake #3...Taking a "dip" #4...Mr & Mrs with our cruise ship in the background |
2 Attachment(s) And 2 more..... #5...At the wedding luncheon #6...Back on the ship that evening (sorry this one is a little blurry) As I said, it was an AWESOME day! |
I've been to St. Thomas twice. Spent a week on St. John's - my dream place to live and several days on St. Croix. I know there is a member who now lives on St. John's - she previously lived in Des Moines. Is this possibly who you are thinking of -- dcbroom ?? Here's a thread she had a few months ago of her furbaby http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...day-beach.html |

And sukoshi'sgrma, thank you! Those are awesome. All wedding couples look happy, but I think they look especially bubbly because of the location. Those pics are terrific. And don't worry about posting them for her. She always delays posting pictures of her exploits! ;) |

As for posting them here, I always "think twice" before I say or do anything because I would never want to cause Lisa any embarassment but, I don't think she would mind me posting these. And you're right about HER not posting, especially since their latest move. She has taken some really good pictures of her girls that I wish she would post but, I know she is always so busy. Hopefully one day soon. |
Those pics were great! When we were in St. Thomas they had a poolside wedding...it was really neat...they got married while the rest of us swam! The pool was beautiful...waterfall and the whole 9 yards! It was beautiful...there was a child running around the pool that day...I would say two years old, white blonde curls, brown brown body all over...cause that child was running around naked! :D Hubby took a pic of her cause I made him! Child porn...I don't think so!:p |
I have been to St Thomas, St John, St Marteen, St Lucia, St Kitts, Antigua, Aruba and Puerto Rico! You will love it !! |
