Have you heard?..... There are shops (retailers) in New York City that are now accepting the Euro as payment. It is worrisome to me as I feel this bodes ill for the dollar. It certainly won't help strengthen the dollar and may even weaken it further.:( |
At first when I read this, I thought how can that be legal? But I guess it is. Scary though! |
Wow that is surprising. I didn't know this. Our dollar isn't doing too hot as it is. I am not great about keeping up on these things but the last I heard the Canadian dollar was stronger than ours which I don't know when that's happened before. Is that still true? |
It does concern me, but on a whole different level. |

It just concerns me about moving to a univeral monetary unit and all of that other fun end times stuff :) |

Maybe I'm just dumb, but why would it effect the dollar? Also, other countries (that I have been to) accept the dollar so what is the difference? (that sounds so rude, but I'm just curious, haha) |

It also scares me too :( I know that it has to happen like you said so we can all go home but it is scary after reading this...i had to light a cigarette which I know is a bad thing in itself :( |

Since our money is currently valued at less than the Euro, Japanese Yen, Canadian Dollar, British Pound, Korean Won......it means that our money is devalued. Has less buying power. If you were to plan a trip to one of those places, it would cost you more because their money has higher value than ours. For example, if you went to the bank to exchange your American Dollars for their currency, it would seem that you would be getting less money. It is just that their money has a higher value than ours. If the dollar continues to decline, it will be a problem for the US as far as international business...meaning we (the US) would have to pay more for the 'whatever' because our currency is weaker. Is that about as clear as mud? LOL I probably wasn't the best person to explain it to you.:p Our dollar needs to be strong in the international market. |

Thanks. :) |
Also countries who accept our US dollars do so because it's stronger than their money. If it continues to decline I'm doubt our money will be so easily welcomed anymore. |

over here in germany.. the USD is WELCOMED when you pay..say at micky d's..bc they "rape" you in the euro USD exchange rate... so there for, they are charing you for the meal and a little more bc you paid in USD... its not any better when we go to the bank and get euros. I think its 1,60 Euro to are $1. I have not check it today at are bank... but are dollar is REALLY REALLY WEAK. but its sad when you go to Micky D's in another country and you are paying almost $25 for a kids meal and two adult meals. |
