Insulted I know it is probably a cultural thing but I was really insulted by a co-worker yesterday. He is from an eastern country. I have been on a diet but have only lost 10lbs so far. I have also been sick for the past few months with some as yet undiagnosed illness that causes me to have periodic spells of anemia, nausea and weak muscles. I will be the first to admit that it shows on my face. Anyway he looked at me and in front of a bunch of men said "Are you loosing weight? Your face looks loose. It does not look as good." One of the guys tried to cover up with a joke by calling him a smooth talker but it hurt my feelings none the less. |
What a fool! There are so many people in this world that just ought to keep their mouth shut more often! Sorry he hurt your feelings....try to let it roll and have a nice day!:) |

Consider the source...men are stupid. I also particularly love it...when one comments...man, you must be exhausted...you look tired. And up until that comment...you felt fine. |
first of all... ONLY 10 pounds???? Wow,you should be very proud of yourself!!! That is such an accomplishment!!!! As for the jerk at work... forget about him,some ppl need to bring others down to make themselves feel better Take care of yourself and i hope your feeling better!!! |

I had something similar happen to me, but it was not a co-worker but my BIL, I had just lost 45lbs and he complimented me by saying that I had traded in my pounds for wrinkles..... so don't let that strike it home, some people are just boorish and they will remain that way so you can't let that bother you. BTW congrats on the weight loss, it's not an easy road to be on but so rewarding once you have achieved your goal. Keep up the good work and keep smiling. You'll be a knock out. |

Is English his first langauge? I work with a lot of foreign nurse and sometimes the translation from one language to another just looses something. Let's just hope he didn't mean it as it came out (not that I'm defending the rude a@@) |

Gosh, you guys are so supportive. Thanks. The guy isn't from this country originally but has been here for 17 years working in hospitals the whole time. He is a citizen. That is why I don't know if it is a cultural thing or not. I don't think he feels like women are his equals though. He comments about my age from time to time and pretends he is joking. (I have gray hair but I'm not an OLD woman.) I've usually let what he said slide off my back but that last crack was just plain hurtful. He also complains about the United States and all of our political figures, the police, the educational system, and capitalism so I am used to his rants. When he first started working here I was afraid he was a terrorist because he complained so much! But I guess he is just weird. I wish he would retire! |
How rude!!! what is it with some people? obviously brought up without being taught manners...sometimes people will say to me..'you look tired'...i'm like..'Thanks! that's just a 'polite' way of saying that i look like s**t'!:rolleyes: I never comment on anyone's appearance in a negative way..i always compliment people and try my best to make them feel good about themselves..that's because i have tact and good manners...next time he makes a comment like that i would tell him he needs to mind his manners..perhaps he makes comments like this because he is not very confident in is own appearance;) |

Oh Im sorry! :( Sometimes people get their 'american' phrases mixed up. I remember 2 instances in my life... My ex was puerto rican and his fathers family still lived there. Well his aunts came up to visit and when they were trying to speak English they told him he had gotten FAT. But they meant he had gotten big (grown up from a boy into a man) LOL And I had a guy friend from Russia, actually he was my brothers roommate and he was trying to say that I was curvy but instead he said I was ROUND! ooohhh I was sooo mad! Wow...sorry that he hurt your feelings. And loosing 10lbs is a HUGE accomplishment. I can't even loose 2! I would let this guy know that his comments hurt your feelings. This way if he is not intending to do that he will stop. If you tell him and he doesn't stop then you know for sure is is a JERK! Sometimes people say things and are not meaning to hurt anyone. However sometimes they are! Good Luck! |
