How to secure screened windows? So now that it's nice out, I'd like to leave my windows open at night. However, I'm afraid Gloria, my cat, is going to try to climb the screen and cause it to fall out or something! Has anyone had this happen? Any types on securing the screened windows so that they are super secure? |
Years ago our big cats could and did push out the screens in our home. They weren't the best of quality and didn't fit the windows very tightly. Fortunately the drop to the ground was no more than 4 feet and they jumped higher than that all of the time to get on the cabinets, so they never got hurt. Can you nail the screen frame into the window frame? |
That's funny, because I can never get my screens out when I want to!! One of them I ended up punching a hole in trying to get it out and the frame was still stuck!! |
It does not look pretty, but I put baby gates in my windows. I sit them between the window frame (side that is open) and the jam (in the wall). I use the spring load type and adjust so they are secure. I live in a 3-story town home, this has given me great peace of mind. I know you can buy child and pet proof security screens, I don't know where, how much or how they install. |
My dad put bars on my window when I was a teen ...does that help Kyle? LOL...ha, ha!!! Told you I was bad! :p :p |

I'm sure they'd be fine... I'm just overly cautious. |

I have/had(onepassed) 2 sister cat's that enjoyed climbing my screen& now it's just aweful with huge hole's. i saw my neightbor has a thick metal pet screen that screw's in im gonna look into getting that Because i can't open my window I'm to scared the animal's are gonna fall out I'll find out where they got it. Here are some you might want to look into. Absolutely Amazing Pet screen doors saves family pets petscreen doors dogs cats approved Liberty LockSmith - Gates |
My cats never really climbed the screens, but I used to leave my back sliding door open a little bit and my male cat pushed the edge of the screen away from the door and made his own "pet door". I thought it was a great idea since I didn't have to get up in the middle of the night to let him in or out....the only thing is, he'd go out, catch rodents and then drag them into the house....NOT a nice thing to wake up to:(. |

My mom's dog did something similar to that last summer. He made a hole in the sliding screen door and used it like a handle to open the door and let himself in. :p |
Baby gates are great because they are temporary and relatively inexpensive. They can be easily removed for off season and to wash the windows and screens. |
