Vehicle recommendations The end of this summer we are going to be looking for a bigger vehicle. I drive a chevy tracker now and it's just too small for our family. I'd like a SUV, my husband isn't a fan of vans, any recommendations? My tracker is about the size of a Jeep Liberty and it doesn't give much leg room. I looked at a newer Durango and liked it. |
I personally like the Jeep Commanders or Grand cherokees (my alltime fav Jeep is the cherokee.. but they dont' make those anymore). Jeeps last forever and don't seem to have nearly the amount of problems other brands do. |
I like the look of the newer Jeeps but hubby doesn't. It has a box like look to them. He is so picky about what I drive. LOL I guess he is paying for it. :) |
Yea, I dont' really like the look of the Liberty at all.. the commander is okay, my friend owns one and its soooo nice to ride in. Are the new grand cherokees "boxy"? I don't know that i've seen a recent model Grand Cherokee. |
How about a Chevy Equinox? It's an SUV that doesn't look like every single other SUV on the road. ;) |

There is only one bad thing that I have found - a blind spot in the front(especially the right) because the front column is so wide. So you just have to always look one more time before pulling out into traffic. In the '08, they reduced the size of the back seat headrests, so that visibility is better. I think the inside/leg room is pretty spacious too. |
I personally adore Honda's. We have a CRV which is perfect for my husband & me! The backseats fold down completely which leaves all kinds of room for all the moving we tend to do. If headrests are removed from the front seats, then they can be reclined all the way back to touch the back seats & can be made into a bed. (Which is great for outdoor music fests!) There are all sorts of neat compartments for storage and even a "picnic" table that is stowed underneath the carpet in the back. CRV's are really neat, fun cars for people on the go! Honda Pilot's are excellent if you are looking for a roomier SUV. I think they seat up 7 or 8? I'm sure they have all kinds of neat features! My Aunt has one and has nothing but great things to say about it. Good luck on your search! |
I have been looking at SUV's my self... I need to get a bigger car bc we are moving back to Tx where ALL my family lives. so we need like a 7 seater and I will not get a van. I am not a fan of them either. So I have been looking at buick enclave crossover. So far I have liked what I read. and its not TOOO bad on gas for a SUV. but I have not seen one in person yet. SUV's are not big over here in Germany... |
I got the Acura MDX as a graduation gift last Fall 2007. I absolutely love it it has 3 rows of seats, although I've never used the 3rd row, I keep it folded down for more cargo and trunk space. But it rides like a car not like a truck. And I really have no complaints, except that it takes premium octane fuel, but it only ends up being about $5 more than if it was using regular. |
Well with the price of gas you may want to think more economical. My bf just bought a mitsubishi outlander. They are reasonably priced, plenty of legroom and have good gas mileage for an SUV (about 26 - 27 mpg). They look sharp and ride nice. He is super happy with it! |
How about a Honda Pilot? |

How about a Ford Explorer? I have the Eddie Bauer Edition. It has the 3rd. row seats, (seats 7 people), moon roof, leather seats, everything power. It's deep cherry red. Rides like a car and not like a truck and not to bad on gas. :D |
Have you checked out the new Nissan Murano's? I am thinking about getting one of those soon. I tried to go from a 4Runner to a sedan (BMW) but I miss the SUV...I don't like being down so low to the ground. The new Murano's are really nice. |
Have you seen the Chrysler pacifica...oh my, I am totally in love with them. They remind me of a station wagon on steroids...LOL...just kiddin, they are a crossover-not an suv and not a wagon, ya know? 3 rows of seats and feels like you are driving a car, I love it and test drove one...maybe in a few years, who knows LOL |
I have an 03 Jeep Liberty and I think there is a lot of leg room in it. I do love my Jeep but the only thing is, the cargo area is not all that big. Plus we only get like 18 miles per gallon regular driving. Which wasn't bad until this past year. :( |
Just got the Nissan Pathfinder five months ago...love it. Lots of room but it does eat that gas and it's a 6 cylinder. So if you need the family room but dont' want a minivan that is a good option. |
Subaru Foresters are amazingly reliable. I have a 2000 and have never had one bit of problem, absolutely none. We got one after our other Subaru finally bit the dust after 13 years. The rods were knocking and the engine smoked and hubby was still able to drive it for over a month before we traded it in. That cars engine was repaired and is still on the road as we have seen it around town. They have pretty good gas mileage, all wheel drive and they are making the newer ones bigger and not so boxy looking. |
