sick dogs I am so saddened by all the dogs here who are sick and/or have such bad health problems. :( It seems like there are more all the time. Why are so many Yorkies getting sick? Or is it just because more people are posting that it seems like so many more? It's so sad to read about all the things these little ones are going through and how hard it is for their families. I know Yorkies are prone to some diseases/health issues, it just seems like it gets worse and worse. Is it cause of bad breeding? I hope all of us who DO have healthy dogs truly appreciate it and know what a blessing it is. :animal-pa |
These little guys are just like our children, and I think one of the issues is the size. My own daughters both weighed about what my Yorkie does at birth. I can't imagine sending one of my newborns outside to potty or take a walk. :) These little guys are so helpless, even though they seem so mighty. Mine is sick today, vomiting and diarrhea.:( |
It IS sad - and with all the people breeding these days (I mean the ones that have no clue or care to what they breed) ....I'm afraid we'll be seeing more and more. :( |
My incredibly long thought on the subject (sorry) Yes, it is sad. I think a few things are going on. Bad breeding is certainly playing a part in this and, I agree with V, it's only going to get worse. Another thing is that the miracles that vets can do nowadays adds to the number of sick dogs in a way. Dogs that would have been pts when I was a little girl are getting wonderful care. After Bernie got hit by the car he was in such a state that 20 years ago there would've been no choice but to put him to sleep. I'm thankful everyday that this was not the case, but, he does have occasional health issues to this day as a result of the trauma he went through. So, what do I do? Post about it. That brings me to my third point. I think the fact that this site is soooo huge and people are going to post when their little ones are sick, means we see a slightly higher percentage here than if we had real world statistics. But that's just my opinion, I could be way off base. Regardless, it's heartbreaking to read the posts about the sick furkids and their suffering families. |
It is upsetting. My friend Vicki (bleu boy barber) has gone through so much with Bleu Boy so far. I feel so fortunate that Lacy and Rylie haven't had any serious health problems and that their LPs haven't bothered them as of yet. This is one reason I am so passionate about breeding the right way...too many yorkies genetically prone to be unhealthy :( |
I see that too on here and have wondered myself why are so many ill.....I can't help but wonder how many are ill from the vaccines we give them, it just seems like their illnesses and diseases are chalked up to as "just being normal", I for one think it is disturbing to have so many sick pets....it's sad to think that we give many, many, more vaccines today to our pets than we did a couple of decades ago yet we have more sickness than ever before.... Science of Vaccine Damage Canine Health Concern so sad...... |
it's heart breaking to see so many sick. It also makes me watch mine like a hawk - I don't want to worry, but I do want to be aware. Bubba went thru almost 2 weeks of being sick - it was horrid -- I had never dealt with an animal with health problems unless they were brought on in old age. I think he was exposed to something when we traveled out of state - possibly at a dog park. I would never have thought that would even happen to us. I hate seeing so many people wanting yorkies because of popularity, it just encourages reckless breeding. Beyond the puppymills - so many byb are so dangerously endangering the breed (I know I'm preaching to the choir here) |
it is all so heartbreaking... I think so far although I have had my share of breeder problems.. I so far have good healthy dogs... kacee has LP.. but not due to the breed.. but my BIL who thought while I was at the doctor she should show kacee how to jump up his deck steps with a rather high rise.. he was 1.7 pounds and far to tiny for doing this crap... it did his knee's no justice.. they did this all afternoon.. and he says.. oh I wanted to tire him out for you...:eek: I was not a happy camper as he sat crying when I was holding him and had never done that before....anne |
I also think that are pets are getting sicker as the environment is getting sicker!! The pollution in the environment and food is giving people more cancer and pets more cancer and other diseases also. Some pet food companies use road kill and cancerous meat as their meat and meat by products ingredients!! |
I am very thankful that Gizmo continues to be a healthy boy, and I continue to pray for those who are sick or injured. Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to go give Gizmo a hug and a belly rub right now. :) |
I was thinking about starting a thread just like this! It just seems so many babies are sick lately, and some of them so seriously ill. It breaks my heart! Libby had a bladder stone a couple of weeks ago and I think she's doing fine now, and Maddie got hurt about a week ago. Since then, it just seems that every time I come on here, there's another poor baby ill. So many to pray for, I should keep a list! It's so heartbreaking. |

So did the stone come out on it's own or did something have to be done? What happened to Maddie? |

That is one reason I have taken all my dogs off of the kibble diet. I realize that human grade mean is not 100% perfect or free from anything harmful, but it is a far cry better (in my opinion :) )than dry dog food. Not trying to start a debate about dog food here - just my opinion. I also will not take my dogs to dog parks. I think they are places just waiting for a dog to walk in and pick up any number of germs and illnesses. No thank you. Anyway...it's nice that we have a place like this to post when our pets are sick to get support and advice and prayer from so many people. It really helps a lot. It still makes me sad to see so many little ones suffering along with their owners.:( |
