Best sewing machine? Hi ladies! I'm getting my baby girl in May and I wanted to start trying some sewing patterns! I bought some Simplicity ones from Wal Mart and I ordered a cheapo sewing machine but it stinks so I'm returning it tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone had a rec for a good sewing machine that's not too expensive (I'd like to spend less than $100 if possible...) If anyone has a brand that they love please please let me know! Thanks!!! |
I have a Brother PC machine, it is an expensive computer machine but I've had it since 94' with no repairs. I love it! I'm sure Brother makes less expensive machines also. You could also look on Craig's List for a used one. Good luck! |

I have a Singer Simple. It's nothing fancy, but it's been a trooper while I've been learning how to sew. It has held up very well. :) |
I love my Bernina. I have had it for years with no problem. IMO, you get what you pay for. You can buy a machine many times over if you buy a cheapo model, or, you can buy a good one and have it forever. If sewing is new to you and you just are not sure you want to make an investment, then a cheapo machine may give you what you need. |
Thanks so much for your replies :) Gracie I totally agree with you. I'm a beginner so I figured the cheapo was the way to go..WRONG-O! lol! I mean, I'm glad I realized but after seeing the terrible quality, it wouldn't have benefited me at all anyway...like what if I really enjoy sewing? Then i'd be investing in all these "step higher" machines when I could have just gotten one really good one to begin with. I'm going to return this thing tomorrow first thing, and then do a little more research and settle on a good one :) |
