Because that's what meat is...protein and everybody needs protein. However i get proteins in other foods not meat. I understand everyone is raised differently

my children are allergic to gluten, sugar and are lactose intolerant. It's unbelievably hard for me to find a filling, healthy meal for them that doesn't cost and arm and a leg. Quite often, it's meat and potatoes for dinner and, maybe, some day old fruit or veggie - because I can't afford to shop at Whole Foods for substitutions.

my point is, that meat fills you up and keeps you full for a long time. so, if we have to eat dog or cow or chicken - if it's the cheapest, then it's dinner.

i had to explain to my eldest, Jane (11 years old), what I was cooking one night. I thought about lying to her, as I had been for years, or finally talking to her on an adult level. I chose the latter. She was shocked at first and completely disgusted but when I explained to her that it was just food and she had been eating it for all of these years, she said she understood it was about what we could afford - not what we preferred. I told her that if she chooses not to eat the meat that I provide, it's her choice but not to tell her brother (Bobby - 6 years old) because he's still growing and needs all the nourishment that he can get. She still eats whatever we're having for dinner and has held up her end of the bargain and not told my son.

KaifuLee - You asked why we say it's sick ....well - think about it. Our dogs are our PETS - part of the family. You don't EAT family

Mina....I think most all of us would say that no matter HOW broke we got....this would NEVER happen at our tables. That's what 'MAC AND CHEESE' is for

no offense to any culture - but you all probably think many things we do here are awful.... just like most dog lovers think THAT is awful.

Is this for real??? OMG-and people are actually on here to debate why we should eat dog. No-thank you! I think I will have to pass. I treat my dogs as I would my kids-and my kids sure don't look tasty to me!!! :eek:

One more reason NOT to import our food!!! You might not know what you are getting.

I love my dogs, my cat and my children. But, when the cheapest form of good, wholesome food happens to be canine (I know a certain butcher that puts his leftovers of all animals he butchers aside for me, for free), then I take it. My Grandfather has a farm and my children (mainly my eldest) have come to terms with animals they like to pet, play with, etc. dying to be food for us to eat. I've lived in other countries where eating animals - ANY animals - is normal. I buy mac'n'cheese, ramen, bag cereal and such - but when it comes to meat, I take what I get for free and have no qualms about it.


Many other countries eat food that American's cannot fathom but we eat Beef, which other countries/cultures find horrific. Perhaps you should all try to be less judgmental and ethnocentric. I'm not here to stir up trouble, I'm here to share my opinions and to, hopefully, broaden someones mind.

There are lots of things in life that may 'taste good'..or ..'feel good'

Doesn't mean it's always okay.

When I look at my Sassy, I will nevr see dinner. It won't matter if I haven't eaten in forever. I would choose to die beofre I eat my pet. Or yours. Or somebody else's. I don't eat dog. Under any circumstances.

There are many forums about cuisine. All types. Perhaps you should try one of those to promote your eating of dog, KaifuLee.

I didn't start this thread. I didn't bring this subject up. I was merely offering my opinion on it. Again, I had hoped that people could take a step out of their comfort zone and appreciate/respect other people's cultures. the dogs in question are no different than any other animal we consume for food - they are raised to be food, not pets.

It's disappointing that I can't offer my opinion w/o being told to leave or join the group and discuss how gross it is. I don't think it's gross. I don't think it's wrong that you all find it disturbing and wrong. I don't judge you because you don't agree with me. That's the sad part. Perhaps a forum where everyone's views are accepted would be more up my alley.

My question does not involve culture. This is a Yorkie forum. Where people that are members dote on and love their pets. Most condsider them family members. I simply question why you would choose this type of forum to talk about how tasty dog is when you should know it would just make most of the members shudder to contemplate.

I simply question your 'agenda' in choosing this particular type of forum to discuss the merits of eating dog. Did you honestly expect to be embraced with open arms about this subject on this particular forum? Just wondering.

Do you own a Yorkie? Are you planning on getting one? Are you looking for information about Yorkies? These are thoughts that run through my head on your choice of this particular forum. Could you answer that question? Why this forum for this subject?

apparently I cannot post on here without a mod approving of my post. that's too bad.

I do have a Yorkie and I love her very much. But I grew up around chickens, cows, pigs, horses and such. I learned at a very young age where meat comes from and have done the same when it comes to dog.

Again, I'm not asking anyone to agree with me, just open up your minds a little and understand things aren't so cut and dry and tied up neatly with a bow.

Wow!! I had no idea that in the USA, dog meat was a delicasy! Even my Mother, who grew up in the great depression, did not eat dog meat, and meat of any kind and food was scarce. They did eat alot of beans and eggs. That gives a new meaning to the phrase "puppy mill". I guess in other countries, they would be called ranchers.

This is becoming a kind of a gruesome thread.

Most of our Yorkies are tied up neatly with a bow. They are our babies. Our loves. Our reason for joining this forum. The thought of considering them as a meal is so far beyond my thought process. I can't even go there. It is reprehensible to me. Sorry.

I was going to say that Meat sure coast a lot more than beans, rice, cheese, pasta, eggs. You dont need a lot of MONEY to shop for other alternatives to meat. I am a vegetarian and I can tell you,their is other way's to get your protein if you can't afford the USDA regulated meat that your butcher/ store is supposed to provide for you to purchase here in the USA. I would be concerned for the health of my child and myself if some butcher offered me free meat of any kind, let alone cat or dog. How do you know if they are disease free especially sense it's most likely would be stray animals that he is offering:eek:

Also just because it's fine in other countries doesn't mean I have to agree that "Hay its just an animal so their for it could be diner to night! " No thank you! I do not need my mind broaden on this subject. As I said before I am a vegetarian but I don't come on here posting threads to broaden meat eaters minds on turning vegetarian.

I think these sites are a hoax....I remember a while back that there was a site called Manbeef that claimed to be selling human meat! The wording was EXACTLY the same as above....and a lot of people were convinced it was a real site until it the guys who started it admitted it was a hoax and closed it down. If you go onto Snopes it says all about it.

I was thinking that too..but didnt want to say. Meat is more expensive than rice, etc. I'm a veg. too and buy alternate meat, or 'fake' meat and i dont find it expensive at all. I know plenty of meats that can be more expensive to buy but again i didn't want to say it...and i'd rather keep my mouth shut before i said something bad lol

I would no way consider going to a Hindu board and talking about the merits of eating beef and pork. It would be repugnant to them. What would be the point? Therein is the rub, for me. What is the point? Being on a dog forum, advocating the practice of eating dog. Why do such?

If you want to and do eat dog...why torture others about it? That's the whole point. Why not go somewhere to post that would embrace you with this 'custom'...why come to a Yorkie forum and advocate the eating of Yorkies? They are, after all, dogs. How are we to know if you would ever consider your Yorkie as a meal, since you have such a cavalier attitude about eating dog? So if you got in a bind financially and couldn't afford to feed you kids, would you....???....consider it? This is the wrong place for advocation of such and I simply cannot understand why you cannot understand that. It isn't about culture at all, even though you state that it is. It is about your choice of forums for such statements. What do you expect to find here as far as a response?

What do you hope to accomplish with this? Exactly what were your expectations when you posted?

Hey...this is ludicrous! What you might say...if it is from your heart....could not be bad. Do you find this to be weird and way out there? I think it is and that it is just a ploy to bring chaos and upset to everyone here. It is ridiculous and obscene that his person has posted this on this particular forum.

It's definetly out there, i would never in a million years think about eating dog. You know, one day when i was eating dinner with my family somehow the conversation shifted to my dogs and my dad said if he were starving he would eat my dogs. He was in the vietnam war and had to eat snake, all kinds of things. Anyway my brother agreed with him but they were doing it to bother me but still i was so mad, and hurt. Even if i were starving i wouldn't eat my dogs, cause they are my family and you dont eat your family. That is so weird to even THINK about. I mean there's so many things on this earth to eat, why dog?? And i know people that eat it in china and other countries eat it as a delicacy and its very expensive there so they are not starving. They just love to eat it. I really do think they came here just to start trouble, this is a dog forum. Some people:mad:
