Mystery Shopping I do mystery shopping here in Indiana. It can be a lot of fun- but is a lot of work. I use companies that do not require a fee to shop. There are a lot of companies that require that you join their company and they locate the jobs for you. I work without the middle man. You may have to make a purchase when you do a shop. On the average it will take 45 to 60 days before you get any reinbursement. It is a big committment- and you can use a lot of money in gas going to the shops. You have to join the companies- become certified and check the job boards daily to see if anything is available in your area |
I have no idea what this stuff is. Can someone explain? |
I don't know anything about this either. It does sound like fun!!! |
Ok here is the scoop A company will conatct me by phone or internet and ask me to do a shop. For example it may be a Halmark Card Store- I will go in as a customer and brouse around the store. I am checking to see how long it takes for someone to ask me If I need help. I will note their physical description- if they are in correct uniform. I will look at the shelves to see if they are clean- well stocked with merchandise and what kind of merchandise. I may state I am looking for a gift for a neighbor- I will evaluate the sales reps knowledge of the product and see if they promote the current items that the store is marketing as specials. Will go home and fill out a report and fax or scan it to the company. They can be very detailed or quite simple. A shop may take 5 minutes up to a hour. I shop- vets, pet stores, chiropractors, boarding kennels, grocery stores, theatres, restaurants, sporting good stores, general merchandise stores, vision shops, bowling alleys, automobile repair shops, hair salons and on and on. I pick and choose when, where and if I want to do the shops. |
I had a friend do this. She would go to places like Subway and other fast food places. She would got there and check out their service and rate them. |

When I was a manager for service merchandise we used to get them all the time. I always wondered how they found secret shoppers. |

There is a Website called Volition.com and that have a section with companies that schedule mystery shops. You have to register with each of these companies. Never register with any that charge a fee. After you give all your info the company may ask you you to give them a example of your writing. What they are looking for is how you look at a situation. You must state olny the facts when you give a reaport- not I/M/O. Others require that you take a test and pass for each business that you wish to shop. It is very time demaniding to start. At first- you may not be offered any jobs that pay over $10.00 you have to work yourself up the ladder with the scheduling company. They look to see if your reports are on time, directions are followed, and if you provide a qaulity product. |
