We have Carpet Beatles!!!!! EWWW! My hubby just called me and informed me that we carpet beatles they eat through fabric on clothes and furniture and love pet areas. I'm reading an article now but wanted to know if any of you have had any experiance with this infestation? Our landlord has not had an exterminator out in over 14 months and we're ready to just pack up and leave. My weekened is going to be filled with LOTS of cleaning. I'm type A and a clean freak and I feel like I have bugs crawling all over me! EEEWWWWWWWWWW:eek: |
Oh yes - been there  Sorry to say that EVERYONE pretty much has them. They are almost impossible to get rid of. They cycle from the lavree and beetle. The lavree is what eat protein (hair) The best possible solution is to always keep very clean and vaccum ALL the time. ;) |
Sprinkle some Boroxo all over the carpets when you can take the dog and go somewhere for the day, or do it right before you go to bed. (it won't hurt the dog) I've left it on my carpets for a couple of days before when my son came with his big dog who had some fleas. It dries bugs up. |
EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! I am going to vacuum tonite! |

That's horrible! I am soo thankful that my house is all tile...but when I lived in base housing it was all carpet...yucky stained carpet, who knows what was living in there:eek: |
  I have them too and we do not have any carpet (only a mat at the front/back door) I have been finding them in the track of the sliding glass door and in the pantry! I am less then thrilled about this considering I am a cleanaholic, germaphobic freak!:( |
They are called carpet beatles b/c they eat fabric, but you don't have to have carpets to have them. We have tile and hardwood and still have them. They are so tiny, the beetle themselves are like the size of a sesame seed, the larvae are even smaller and they are the ones that eat protein. They travel in the baseboards and molding and trim, so make sure to vacuum along those. Also they can come from birds or other wild life animals that can make into your house (roof, etc...) After my spotings in my home, I have 'inspected' a few of my friends and family homes too and guess what, they have them as well. So pretty much everyone has them, they are just sooooooooooooooo small they do often go un-noticed. Keeping your house clean and 'dust bunny' free is really the best way to keep them at bay. |
I never heard of them. I shampoo my carpets every 2-3 weeks and vacuum every week. Yikes I hope I don't have them |
