Platform Bed vs. Bed Frame/Headboard... This is a totally random question, but the reason for my question is party because I want a lower bed to make it easier for the dogs, so that's why I'm asking all of you! Right now we have a metal bed frame and I hate it. I have a bed skirt on there that I'm forever straightening and I don't like it. The bed is too high, even for me, but my husband likes it because he is tall and a big guy. I LIKE the look of platform beds, the dark or black wood ones that are kind of minimalist. Most have a headboard and no footboard which I like. But, they are to be used without a box spring, which we have now. Do any of you have this? Is it comfy without the box spring? Is it too low? The alternative is just making a headboard, which would be cool but then I'm stuck with the super high bed and the stupid bed skirt. I'm not buying a bed meant to accommodate the box spring and mattress, because if it's going to be this high I'll just make a headboard. My other problem is that I can't just order online because I have to make sure it's sort of study since my husband is such a big guy. Most of the ones I've seen in person only seem to come in Queen and we need a King size. Any ideas? Before we just had our box spring on the floor and the height was perfect for the dogs. We put the frame back only because it looked terrible and we are trying to "stage" the house to sell. I am planning to get a low ottoman/bench for them to use as a step because I'm constantly tripping over the covered box they use now. Also, can I make a platform out of 2x4's instead?? Or do I watch too many DIY shows? |
I like the platform beds because the footboard adds a few more inches and we have a cal king so it just add more room to already big bed so i wish i had got a platform bed and you can always do something pretty to make it look like it has a a heard board with a curtain and rod I wacth too many home shows too im not really sure if that helped but wanted to tell you why i like the platfroms or minimalst too |
When we just bought our new bed, the salesperson told us you don't need a boxspring if you have a memory foam type of mattress. You do need to use the boxspring if you have a spring mattress. We made a headboard using a sheet of plywood, covered with foam and material. |
