We know this family and wanted to ask others to read this most heart warming article in our local newspaper. Lindsey is such a remarkable young lady, she just turned 14 years of age, the strength she has in speaking and working towards helping others with this terrible disease of Alzheimers, and one day praying there will be a cure. I too know the heartache and have cried many tears as I have had to watch the love of my life deteriate with Parkinsons, let us all pray and let our voices be heard that more needs to be done to help all afflicted with these terrible diseases. Lindsey's Dad was only 50 when he was struck with Alzheimers. The following article is from our local paper.

I am crying as I am typing this but they are tears of hope crying out to the Lord, please Lord help mankind to put aside the turmoil of wars and more wars and help mankind to do for one another in finding cures for all people through out the world.

Just as Lindsey has been a blessing to her family, particularly her dad, who can no longer walk or talk and eats very little. During her acceptance speech at the "Sardi's" event, Lindsey said she was "honored and proud to be a caregiver for the wonderful man I've been blessed to call Dad."

What follows is an excerpt from her speech:

"Over the last eight years, I have cried many tears because Alzheimer's has stolen my dad and has forever robbed us of sharing life's adventures. I truly believe that although there is no hope for my dad, there still can be hope for others. I don't want another person to suffer from Alzheimer's like my dad does. And I don't want any caregiver to know what it's like to struggle financially, shed tears of frustration and pain because they are worried about their loved one and their own future. ...

"Like the Alzheimer's Association, my promise to you is that I will continue to be an advocate, a voice for Alzheimer's sufferers …"

Lindsey urged her fellow teens to become advocates and "spread the word about Alzheimer's."

"Don't we as children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends also suffer along with our loved ones struggling with Alzheimer's? … Let's advocate together so that our generation won't have to suffer from this disease - physically, emotionally and financially …"

Lindsey thanked the Alzheimer's Association for supporting her family and also her family for their "unwavering love, support and strength."

"A special 'thank you' to my mom for showing me what true, unconditional love is. And lastly, 'thank you' to my dad, because the legacy I received from him is all the good you see within me. And for that gift, his memory will live on and I will be forever blessed."

On April 16, Lindsey, who wants to start a Web-based young caregiver's support group, will speak on the steps of the state Capitol in Sacramento as part of the Alzheimer's Association Advocacy Day program. She also was asked to speak at an Alzheimer's forum in Washington, D.C.

What a special young lady!
In this day and age so much bad things are in the news all the time!
Then every once in a while- your hear a "Lindsey Star" story- and it puts a smile on your face, in your heart- along with a little tear in your eyes!!

My father had Parkinson's , as your did!
His 85th birthday would have been March 29!

Yesterday,Easter, and other Holidays- are bittersweet memories of my parnets!

What a sad situation but such an encouraging story! Bless that young girl. She will move many mountains as she grows up and I'm sure she will effect many lives along the way

What a special young lady she is...

After reading this I am convinced that Lindsey was fortunate to learn... that to be a care giver is a special gift from God. There are lessons to be learned in doing so that will touch the heart and soul in a way that nothing else can, but to recognize this gift at such a young age is a very special gift indeed.
