PETANIM MAYBE A SCAM! omgosh http://www.petanim.com/ Omgosh!!! :(  I be so mad if it is, but i'm not 100% sure if it is or not, but i have details to backup my predictions! It all started when i came across the site Craigslist.com, notorious for scammers to try to scam people. I saw the ad for Petanim.com to post up a picture of your dog to win a cash of $500-first place, $200 second place, and $50 third place. This site had a contest for "Dress your pet to impress" and i enter my dog, Chopstix in the contest, and i believe some yorkies here also enter their yorkie for the contest. I had entered my dog, January 2, 2008. I was like the one of the first to enter my dog's picture. From my understanding of the site, this http://www.petanim.com/dress-your-pet-impress-rest pretty much sums up the terms and conditions in order to win the prize. THE HIGHEST RATING wins. But when i read this http://www.petanim.com/competition-terms-and-conditions THE MOST VOTES WIN, i was confused, but i thought, my chopstix is in the lead, so the dog with the most ratings would win right? The contest doesnt end till Feb. 29th, there was so much time to vote. I emailed all my friends, on myspace, facebook, at school to vote everyday for him. I needed the money based on my finanical status. $500 does go a long way. We voted everyday for him. Their system is set up that, you can only vote one time, with one computer, meaning, each computer can only vote every 24 hrs. Someone complained on the forum of petanim, that i was cheating. I do not know why they thought that. Chopstix had the highest rating, but he had lesser votes than the 2nd dog. the 2nd dog had more votes than him by 100 or so. But anways, when the contest ended, Chopstix photo was in the lead. I thought i'd won. I then recieved an email from this guy Arnak Ivanov (arnakivanov@gmail.com). He mainly asked for 3 photos of Chopstix, but he didnt state who had won, but there was a chart that showed who was 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Chopstix was first. Now, 2 or 3 days ago, petanim posted the winners and their 3 pictures of the dogs. http://www.petanim.com/february-2008-winners  Chopstix didnt get first place? I was confused, but i wasnt angry or furious or anything. Because, i thought the money probably went to the charity of Addie and because of all the complaining that i cheated. So just to clarify the terms and conditions of the contest, i emailed Arnak about it. Quote:
i sent another email regarding the terms and conditions: Quote:
First of all, what is ant chiding? Then i realized something, a co-worker had warned me earlier the day to be careful that the check they sent might be a scam (because it had happened to a friend of hers. she receieved a check and it was a fake check.) So i started to investiage a little, and what i found, is surspisely questionable... With emails from Arnak, his signature is this " Best regards, Arnak Ivanov www.petanim.com www.absolutelyinternational.com " If you click the website from his signature, www.absolutelyinternational.com , you get this website. Now, if you check out the "contact us" , there's no name mention but a mailing address and come phone numbers and their copyright. Copyright © 2001 - 2008. All rights reserved. Website designed by Absolutely International LLC. But, if you go to this site, http://www.absolutelyinternational.com/index.htm , you get almost, not nearly though, the same website. Now, again, check out the "contact us" and the copyrighted: © Absolutely International 2004 You see this: English or German, contact Robert Doherty under (704) 907-7662 Armenian or Russian, contact Arnak Ivanov under (704) 622-8727 His name is on this site. This site dont seem legit at all. There's more, check this website: http://www.alibaba.com/company/10361094.html It tells you the complete company profile of Absolute International LLC. The owner, the year it was established. 2001, their products and services as well. There's nothing that has to do with Petanim or pets. I called this number Robert Doherty under (704) 907-7662, and it went through. Then, I called this number: Arnak Ivanov under (704) 622-8727, it didnt even go through. I'm afraid that the other winning dogs might be scammed as well :( But I'll be waiting for the check to arrive and will report it first before i think about cashing it!. |
i'm sorry that you're going through this, my friend had her maltese entered bc she needed the money for vet wrk, but we were confused as to who would win as well, we figured it was votes bc ppl can give you a low rating on purpose and whatnot... but this is really sad, as most ppl who entered really needed the money to help their pets... |
hmmm, i'm sorry that happened. i gave up long ago entering contests, they never seem fair/legit. |
THERE HAS BEEN A MISUNDERSTANDING DUE TO ME POSTING THIS THREAD THAT PETANIM WAS A SCAM. I DID RECEIVE A CHECK OF $200, AND NO, THE SITE WAS NOT A SCAM. :):animal36:animal36 |
In that case, I'm sorry for all the trouble and drama, but in the end, CONGRATULATIONS. |
due to emails from arnak ivanov, i have to apologize for my "misunderstanding" again. |
You said they "may be" a scam, not that it was. No apologies needed. Don't let yourself be bullied. They clearly have a lot of counterdictions in their terms of use and entry rules. Again, don't let yourself be bullied by someone. Obviously with rules like that, and broken english and all caps in return emails, I would be suspicious as well. |
I agree! If they don't want people to end up confused then they need to post their rules more clearly. I don't think his responses were particularly helpful in clearing up the confusion either. An apology from him might have been expected. Congratulations on 2nd place!:) |
:confused:What a bizarre situation... |
