mini chow chow my friend is thinking of getting a mini chow chow. i told her she may have problems with homeowners insurance. she stated it only applies to a full size chow. i looked online to help her and nothing states that small size chows are not included. does anyone know? she doesn't want to have her insurance dropped down the road due to misinformation. thanks! |
I would say she needs to talk with her agent before making a decision and be sure to get everything in writing just in case it's ever needed. Personally, I can't see that the size of the dog would change anything...if a chow is listed then I would imagine her insurance company would say it's a chow regardless of size. |

It's kind of crazy...I think German shepherds are supposed to increase your ins. premiums too..We never let our ins. co. know we got a shepherd, but, she's not mean at all, and if she ever got that way, she would be gone in a heartbeat. For one thing, she's in a dog run that is in our fenced back in yard...someone would have to go through our gate, in to our back yard and then open the dog run in order for her to be able to get out....I could see ins. going up with pit bulls, but, most shepherds are a nice dog if they're raised right, and I'm sure it's the same with a chow..not all of them are mean |
yeah i agree, it's probably the breed and not the size they are concerned about... Quote:

well, lately, it's really irritated me, because I take my 2 big dogs out in the back yard to run, and then I play with them(throwing balls, etc) and the neighbors have a pit bull, and twice in the last week, I've seen the 13 year old boy kick it in the butt..I'm afraid it's going to get mean... |

Our insurance did not cancel us with the Shepherds so I guess it depends on the company? |
I've never heard of a MINI Chow Chow...most breeders that breed out-of-standard dogs aren't breeding for the right reasons. And a chow is one breed you really want to make sure comes from a reputable breeder..one that breeds for a certain temperment. I personally would never own a chow...that breed was the only breed banned from the grooming salon I used to work at. Ever chow I've personally known has been mean, and I've only heard stories about how unpredictable and aggressive they can be. I really think they are more dangerous than pitt bulls on average. |
