I need help reading a pattern: Ok ladies, I have never sewn before from a pattern and I am going to attempt a simple pattern but I need help... the brand is Simplicity.. I am trying to make a full body apron and the supplies read: Fabrics: 45'' wide with or without nap:Dotted Swiss, Cottons,Broadcloth,Calico,Chambray, Chintz,Gingham. What does all this mean? Notions: thread. A. two pkgs. og 1/4'' wide double fold bias tape, 4'' length of 3/4 Velcro? Can you translate please....  |
The pattern is giving you suggestions for the type of fabric's you can use. It is also giving you the amount and sizes of the bias tape(for edging i assume) and the amount and width of the velcro. How much sewing exp do you have?? If not much i'd stay away from a fabric with a nap(like microsuede, corduroy ect) |
ZERO sewing experience well except for home ec. in high school years ago...lol.. but I wanted to try something different and this apron looks fairly simple... i hope.. i have a brothers sewing machine (which I cant understand ) and a little shark euro pro X or can do it by hand... I just want to learn and want to do it the simpliest way first get my feet wet... |

* Fabric - it is suggesting a cotton or cotton blend with no nap (fabric looks different from different view points...for example, velvet, suedecloth, corduroy etc. * Notions - you need a spool of matching thread, two packages of 1/4" wide double fold bias tape, color to match or coordinate with your fabric (ask a lady at the fabric store, she can help you) and a 4" long piece of 3/4" wide velcro (again, ask the lady at the fabric store). Good luck! If you really have a desire to sew, go to a sewing machine store in your area and see if they offer a refresher course in basic sewing! |
