Legal Question? Ok, i know a couple of you have legal backgrounds so i have a question for you guys. My parents own a camground here in Albert Lea, MN. Here is the situation. There are seasonal sites (year round) and they were wondering if it would be legal to only allow newer models of rv's because there are people that want to bring in a camper from 1978 and my dad is trying to keep the park looking nice and well that camper doesn't. Would that be discrimination and or illegal. The property is ours and everything, so i don't know. Please Help! |
There are a bunch of camp grounds around here that only allow newer models of campers as seasonals. |
That's what we are aiming for because there are some real pieces of crap and we just want it to look nice. |
Anyone else? |
I think it would be considered discrimination on the basis of income. It wouldn't fly here, but MN might be different. |
If it's private property, I don't see why you cannot tell someone that they do not have access to your land. The owner of the RV has the right of ownership, the owner of the property has the right to deny it's access to their park. For example, when you buy a house there are certain guidelines that you have to meet and a certain income that is expected in order for you to buy your house. A building company will not approve you for a $300,000-$400,000 house in Texas if you make $20,000 a year. I don't think that could be considered financial discrimination. I believe it is by Federal Law that an owner cannot discriminate on the basis of race, gender, national origin, disability, religion, nor age. I may be wrong though. I'm not a current law student. |
We went to Tennessee in June and at two of the camp grounds we stayed at there were seasonal sites. Which both camp grounds had guidelines for the sites and one of them was that the RV could not be older than 5 years old. |
thanks guys thats what i was thinking. But my dad is a sucker he let the lady in anyway! 1978 trailer piece of junk! and she makes $800 a month so she probably wont have enough to pay her rent. we'll thanks again |
