Oh, I'm also going to move my machine to the big table in the kitchen. I want to give myself plenty of room. I also want light, so I think that step will be tomorrow. My fingers are crossed. LOL!

Judy that is amazing! You did a great job...further down you ask what color thread to use...I would go with red or white I think. You know, I think they make some guilting threads that are multicolor and go from one hue to another thru the quilt top...that would be neat as well if you found one red, white and blue!

Good news first...Gizmo has a new quilt! ;) :p

Bad news...no one else is going to see it! lol! Kathryn...you know how you said directional fabrics gave you a problem? Well, I didn't have that much of an issue until I started quilting it. OMGosh! My stitches looked like c%^&p next to the stripes.

So, I learned that you have to stitch right along the squares and triangles for it to look good on directional fabric. I also discovered that I will never work with fabric that's dark again. :eek:

I know you're going to bug me and tell me, "Oh, it can't be that bad." So, I'm going to show you! I put Gizmo in the photos to distract the viewer a little, but even he can't help this quilt that much. LOL!

Gizzy loves his new quilt though, and I learned a lot of new things about quilting.

It is still pretty! We all have to start somwhere, right?? I sure it would have been much, much worse if I had done it.

Can anyone tell me how to put the feed dogs down on a Singer Simple sewing machine? That might be part of the problem. I got the walking foot on and I love it, but I can't figure out how to put the feed dogs down. I'm not even sure if I can on this machine.

If you set stitch length to zero then the feed dogs will not move the fabric. Whether this makes them go down or just stop moving I don't know. Try it and see what it does. Hopefully that will lower them then you are set!

Is there a reason that the feed dogs need to be down when using the walking foot? I thought you use them both together.

On my Viking there is a little dial type thing under the sewing bed on the front that you turn to put the feed dogs up or down.

I figured this out last night. You are very right. You leave the feed dogs up with the walking foot.

Judy it is very pretty and yes, Gizmo LOVES his new quilt! You can tell!!!! This is why I had someone else quilt Nathan's quilt! I need to get me a walking foot tho and try to do the quilting myself...on a SMALL piece! You are hooked to quilting now...can't wait to see the next one!:D
