Having been an RN for decades and having to fight the old "head nurse" jokes, "do I get a sponge bath, nurse" jokes and the worst of all fighting to get rid of the dresses and nursing caps... I am not really sure I am following why you are using HOT men in your presentation. I cant tell you how many guy friends have asked me...Do you know any hot available nurses?? Granted, most people have no idea what is involved in day to day nursing careers. Not many people understand our responsibilities or situations that we have to endure. I have travelled all over the country as a travel RN and have worked with some incredible guys! AND I MEAN INCREDIBLE! I was proud to work next to them. What they had to offer and teach was so much bigger than what they looked like!!!! So, I just think if you are using HOT guys on your PP presentation, I think the girls in your class may miss the gut of your presentation!!!:D I know I wouldnt be listening to anything you had to say if you had Patrick Dempsey in just some jeans.!!! The nursing shortage is incredible! Especially in Florida. We are 10K short!! I believe MEN are the answer to our NURSING SHORTAGE! So many years everyone thought nursing was just for women. Men NEVER even thought about nursing!!! WE have to create a new culture. The more people you teach about men in nursing the better our situation will be. I am glad to hear you talking about the subject and hope it just doesnt stop in your class!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D :D |

I have one thing to add and I don't mean to insult anyone by this, in fact, the fact pretty much escaped me b/c either I didnt' notice or it didn't matter, or the guys I worked with were mostly straight. But a lot of the male nurses are gay. I think they need to be recognized as being a huge asset to the nursing profession, number one. And the only other thing I have to say is that some of the male RN's I've worked with were so much hotter than any of the celebs could even imagine being without a script in front of them! It's really so nice to have a guy to work with to sort of break up the chic dynamic to tell you the truth. Good luck with your presentation, I'm sure it will be fun. |
My boyfriend wants to go into nursing ;) he is a hot (I think, you can use him :)) He is currently an LPN and is going to get a BSN and then wants to focus on IV or something similar |
In reply to the using "hot guys" it is to keep the focus on men and mens roles through out history. I'm just crazy, trust me, the class will walk out of there with a few thoughts in their head concerning male nurses,,,hot or not. The focus will be there,,,this is just a fun way of getting my point across nothing more nothing less....and as far as the white scrubs and white hat,,,I'm a big fan of seeing those,,,,after going through nursing school myself,,,,I'd wear the male equivalent because I earned the right to be called nurse....just like a cop wears a uniform, the Marines wear dress blues,,,,it's just what you've grown up seeing them in. Have some wine....relax |
I like Rob Thomas from matchbox 20. If you see this Rob, I love you! :p |
One ironic thing that I notice about male nurses is that they are soooooo often mistaken for doctors. On the flip side, female doctors are often mistaken for nurses. My mom's had a few young male nurses and she calls them "Doctor Adam" and "Doctor Steve". She says she knows they're not doctors, but she just likes to call them that anyway. They don't seem to mind.... ;) Oh... and how about theONE and AY. I think they'd make fabulous attention-getters. I came up with that on my own, ya know. ;) |

Because when most of the nurses wore white caps, they were managing bedpans and baths only. People used to come to the hospital for a week to have a physical exam, which included having manicures and nightly backrubs. The docs did the central lines in critical care areas, assisted with pulling chest tubes, gave iv drugs, dropping a ngt, etc! Nursing has changed but the most of the public's idea of what a nurse does has not changed! Its not about the uniform when it comes to nursing~! Trust me. WE EARNED the right to not work in the sterotypical white dress and cap. When your patient dishisses and his guts pour out trust me when I say he wont care what you look like, what your sex is or what your uniform looks like. He will just want you to be prepared! |
