Decorating Dilema 3 Attachment(s) OK I am VERY into decorating my house and having lots of color in my house also. And I am trying to figure out how to paint my livingroom. I dont want the whole living room painted. I just want to paint one wall burgundy. But I am not sure which wall to paint. I either want to paint the wall that the ET center is on, or the wall that the couch is on. I am kinda leaning towards the wall that the couch is on because I plan to paint the arch ways (just the inside of them) hunter green. SO I thought that painting the couch wall burgundy would really make the archways stand out..........BUT..............my mom thinks that I should paint the wall the ET center is on burgundy.........URRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG........ So, I am posting pics of walls that I am considering and asking for opinions. This is the ET center wall............ |

2 Attachment(s) Here is the inside look at the archway where I plan to paint the hunter green |
hhhmmmm.are you going to paint the other walls a different color to go with the burgundy? |
No I plan to do one wall burgundy and leave the rest of them the light sand color that they are now. I feel that if I paint them all burgundy it will make my livingroom too dark and look small. |
. one of my walls in the living room in burgandy. its acutally on the opposite of my couch. i also have a big wall unit on another wall... when you walk into my house the burgandy wall is on the right hand side.. also when you walk into your living room you want to have a focal point. and work around that. |
That is why I am kinda leaning towards doing the wall that the couch is on. Im not sure though cause whenever I decide some one gets me thinking another thing. The trim on my front window is the burgundy color that I want to paint one wall. Ill see if I have a pic of it. |
after looking at your pictures i would suggest painting the wall with the entertainment center burgundy. seeing as that's the smallest wall and it's at the "end" of the room. remember that dark colors make your room look smaller and that's why it's good to balance it out with a lighter color(not white). if your going to paint the door arch hunter green i would paint the reamaining walls a nice medium carmel color , it will balance the green and burgundy nice. |
. the wall i painted burgandy has a sofa table and big mirror hanging and 2 sconces with candles on either side of it. i watch alot of hgtv |
. make the burgandy wall your focal point of the room, that would look great. |

WOW you are right on with my thinking. That was my original idea, but I was going to go with a lighter medium carmel color. I hate white walls and even though they are a really light off white (fawn or sand or whatever they call it now) I still dont like it. |
. you want to walk into a room and say wow straight on.... my focal point is my wall unit cause its tremendous, glass, black lacquer and remote control. |
. ok thats just great. my walls are white..kinda of outdated.. camel is my next color or sand... it would look great... i am a modern ,contemporary gal. |

. what i also did was bring in burgandy accents. i have burgandy pillows for the couch. burgandy candles, also brugandy eucalyptus in a nice vase. bringing out the color nicely |
1 Attachment(s) kelly here's an area that i found that is using your colors the way i explained isn't it pretty.. |
1 Attachment(s) that is really pretty If you look at the colors in my couch (which I hate but wont get a new one till the kids get a little older) it has a bunch of colors in it. Here is a good pic of the colors in my couch. |
1 Attachment(s) here's another picture with the deep caramel color. but i think you can go a shade or two lighter. |
Here is a link to the cabinet that I redid, I think with the green on the archways it will really pull all the color together. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12116 That is another really pretty color in that room pic you posted too. Hmmmmm..... |
you know i had the same dilema with my sofas so what i did is i went to the walmart and bought some slip covers and i looove them because i can wsh them and they look like new again! |
very nice cabinet..and i notice you have hardwood floors too  that will just look great with the colors.. |
I love my hardwoods. I only have one room with carpet and that is a spare bedroom which is now the computer room and Preslees room. I think I might go get some slip covers once my room is done.... Thanks for the help with painting. I am going to do the ET center wall and I really think I am going to go with that meduim carmel color like you said. The more I look at it the more I like it. |
glad that i can help. i can;t wait to see the finished product make sure you post pics :D |
Oh I definately will. I have to take some pics of my kitchen too. I layed all the tile in there myself with a little help from a boyfriend at the times mom. I researched doing tile on the internet and then went from there. I love it too and Im damn proud of myself. I enjoy doing all the stuff myself. Makes me feel like I have really accomplished something. |
3 Attachment(s) I love vibrant colors. As much as I am into web designing, I am into interior designing. I am currently helping my mom remodel her salon. I am using shades of khaki and dark red/maroon. I love how that looks. I am going to paint the walls the khaki color and in the back of the store, paint that one wall dark red while her couch is also a dark maroon/red. I love colors. Especially greens, too. Tans, greens.. I'm there! My opinion is to paint the ET wall. That was what I did with my place in Dallas. It looks nice and gives the room a more centralized feeling to it. I attached 3 pictures that I completely love, starting with the green one the best! |
Great pix. Love the color of that green. The burgundy in the center pic is almost an exact match to the color that I am going to use. |
Yor not going to like this, but I think your mom is right. Only because its your focal point wall. But I do like the idea of the contrasting doorways. Maybe you could paint both walls and then do the doorways.??!! I don't think it will be too dark, and anyway dark doesn't mean it will look small. I have a average size bedroom (12 X 17) and I have some very large furniture. I painted my walls a light chocolate. All my accents are off white and I get a lot on complaints. I'm sure what ever you decide to do, It will look great and if for some reason it doesn't, Well its only paint.. I painted my kitchen purple once, I lived with it for about three days, and then I painted it a celery green, I love it!! Good luck ;) |
I would do the one with the couch if I were you. |
wow kelly thats the show i was watching today!!!!! lol! :p you have a VERY nice house! i think you should DEFENATLY paint the wall with the couch burgendy. i think that would look very pretty!!! |
