Who Changes Your Oil? I saw this video on Jiffy Lube and wanted to share it. It really disgusts me how so many of them are scamming soo many people, then their DM can't even own up to it! http://mfile.akamai.com/12924/wmv/vo...52183.200k.asx |
It won't let me see it when I click!! :( What's it all about? |
thank goodness my husband is a mechanic and he does all my work on our cars, but ya its amazing how many shops out there scam people, they drop the oil filter, put one back in add oil and out they go, they don't get for fluid levels or greasing of the nipples, etc. My husband has told me horror stories on other mechanics who take short cuts to make a bigger buck! |

My car is new and has a service plan so I take it to them. |
i just bought a new prius. whoo. it's the first car i've ever purchased. i'm 24. i had a brand new camry when i turned 16 from my parents, because i am a spoiled baby..which is probably why mocha is too. anyway, my dad was a mechanic and he used to do all my oil changes for me. for my new car, i had him teach me how to do it. and really, it's not worth paying $20 something dollars for. i'm learning how to be self sufficient nowadays, and so my dad, my bf , and my cousin (who works for toyota) are all teaching me to maintain my car myself. :) |
That's always good but doesn't doing your own work on a new car void out the warranty if something happens? Maybe not simple oil changes??? Personally it's not my thing and worth paying $20 to have someone else do it. :) Good for you though for learning how. I'm impressed. |

We go to Big O Tire for oil changes. They're really reasonably priced (there's hardly any markup according to my son) and I completely trust them. For one, my son works there;) and for two, we know the owners of the one close to our house and they're very honest, they would never do that. |
I had seen that some time ago. What a bunch of creeps! I feel the same way about a dealership. You can't trust anyone today. My driver's window would not go up, warrenty was off the car, I took it in to Toyota. They told me $537.00 for labor and parts and the car had to stay all day.I called a friend who's a machanic and he told me $137.00 his cost(toyota parts) and I could bring it in on my lunch hour and wait. It took him 15mins! I just bought a new Toyota and will never take it back to them again unless it's something under warrenty! Their crooks too as all of the dealerships are. |
I dont trust anyone either, but ever since i bought my F-150 i have been taking it to the dealershp, but only because if something goes wrong , i know where to point the finger...only time mine goes elsewhere is to Les Schwaab, to change tires. |
I always request my stuff back... if they changed the filter I want my old one .. and mine are marked by me before they go in so I KNOW it got done... so they can't just give me any old thing... |

I do definitly recommend though, if they ever say you need knew transmission fluid, or anything else, to have someone you know take a look at it first. I think it was the transmission fluid they always tried to get me with, I just said "Oh my dad will do it but thanks". |
dealers arent all the much better... they make mistakes sometimes... i took my truck in for an oil change, drove it home, and got out of my car to find my engine smoking and oil leaking all over my driveway. they forgot to put the cap back on the oil... so it pretty much spilled out and there was only a tiny bit left by the time i got home... good thing i didnt live farther. they did come tow it back for me and give me a free oil change though.... but ive heard of other people who have had them forget to put oil back in and their engine blew... i think their goal is jsut to get as money done in a short amount of time as they can to make the most money. |
