No lights No heat, Bad neighbor Rant

Well my electric has been out since 4pm its now almost 10. We had some fierce wind here today. Tree fell at the end of my driveway, drove my mailbox stand 3 ft into the ground. My dad custom made it out of steel, He curved the steel to make the numbers. I so hope its not to badly messed up. And to top it off its my neighbors tree and he just comes up and looks..He feels no obligation to clean it up. This is the 3rd tree to fall off his property. One crashed thru our roof causing major damage( my insurance paid) big branch fell busting 2 windshields out of vehicles..Did he offer to pay NO. And to top it off when my husband went to cut remaining part of tree down, neighbor said no..

Just had to rant a little bit. I feeling a bit better now that husband has come home and hooked up generator, So I have Internet, computer and TV..

I guess i will survive...BGE Please come soon, We're cold

Bizzymammabee 03-08-2008 06:58 PM

your neighbor sounds like a jackass.

meganium 03-08-2008 07:05 PM

That he is. He will literally stand there and watch my husband clean up his mess. If i see him tomorrow standing out there, Im going to say excuse me you gonna clean this up or pay my husband to do it. Im confrontational, Husband is not...

Bizzymammabee 03-08-2008 07:09 PM

I hate when people just don't handle their buisness. I mean at least help out ....loser.

Grayson's mom 03-08-2008 07:14 PM

not to sound ugly but according to tree law if it falls on your property it's not the neighbors problem. Now a good neighbor may offer to help but they don't have too. At least this is case for my state. A tree fell on my boss's house and it was an "act of god" his insurance paid but the neighbor did nothing to help. A co-worker had a tree fall on her neighbors property and they paid the deductable on the insurance for their neighbor.

meganium 03-08-2008 07:50 PM

But with the act of god. If the neighbors knows that his trees are dead. He could be held responsible..And this man def knows that alot of trees on the property lines are dead. But refuses to take action.. After this one i may need to call the county or someone to make him clean up his dead trees.
Maybe i should walk the property line and take photos. Cause ever time the wind blows I have damage..

I would never Not feel obligated and take action if they were trees off my property.

Bizzymammabee 03-08-2008 07:51 PM

Do what you have to do. Personally I think that whole deciding who is responsible is rediculous. It was his tree. If it were me and it were my tree I would be a good person and offer to pay that deductible and also help in the clean up. Pepole need to learn how to be good neighbors.

meganium 03-08-2008 07:52 PM

All I really want. Is the man to assist my husband. Dont stand there bumming cigs and have casual conversation.

OH and i want electric Please BGE. Come visit me soon..

Bizzymammabee 03-08-2008 07:55 PM

I just saw the news that lots of folks are without elec. In NY they said 13,000, CT 15,000 and somewhere else was like 100,000.

Your honey is nice because he wouldn't be getting a damn thing.

I hope he starts helping soon Lazy BUM!

meganium 03-08-2008 08:02 PM

gypsyqueen 03-08-2008 08:11 PM

no way

I would be on that idiot like a hawaiian on a surf board his tree his problem his pocket cant stand that kind of people

yorkiesmiles 03-08-2008 08:12 PM

well if he has dead trees on his property, I would call someone, so you don't have to deal with this again. But here it is also the responsibility of the person whose yard it falls in to clean it up.

I live in a house that is at least 125 yrs old - it was the original house on a huge farm that about 95 yrs ago was slowly sold off, so its all neighborhoods. But in my backyard is one of the oldest, biggest trees around probably closer to 200 yrs old. Anyhow, a few years ago, this guy buys the house next door to me & one day calls me on the phone - I'd never met him, which meant he had to have gone to the county assessor's website, found my name & looked me in the phone book.

He calls over telling me, your tree is hanging partially over my house & I want you to cut it down because there are limbs hanging over my bedroom and I don't want them to fall off & crash into my room & kill me  -- I told him I would do no such thing. He was so ignorant - he couldn''t see the hundreds of dollars he was going to save on air conditioning due to the tree shading his stucco house. I can go for weeks without ever turning my air on because of this tree & the stucco. He had no regard for the environment & the life of this tree or my personal property.

I told him, I would do no such thing, the tree is very much alive. I questioned him why he would have ever bought the house if he was so afraid of my tree. He was a jerk on so many other levels in the short time he owned the house. I was glad when he moved, although that house has been owned by a succession of royally idiotic people - now the people there have backed into my wooden fence & the only thing holding it up is the frozen ground & the little bit of twine I've strung around the fence & the posts. Would love to have them pay for the damage and repair - but I won't be holding my breath

So I know how bad neighbors can be.

meganium 03-08-2008 08:26 PM

Oh forgot to mention when the tree fell on my house I was in bed sleeping when the ceiling feel on me and my son....Oh how are you are you ok..Nope he didnt care.

I dont like my neighbors anymore, used to be a good neighborhood with alot of old timers..I had a neighbor from around the corner rob my house las august, while my 15 year old son was upstairs playing xbox. Thank god he did not hear them and come down...And apparently they were still here when we got home, becuase after coming in the house and stealing my laptop, ipod, and psp, they got in the car i just parked and stole my husbands wallet...

Well what they didnt know is that we had security cameras...Busted, Went to court He recieved 20 years. States attorney informed me he's appealing .One got away with it cause they couldnt prove it was him. At that time i was so greatfully they didnt steal my Bella..There was a lot of yorkie thefts going on.

yorkiesmiles 03-08-2008 09:25 PM

that is just crazy! You think the tree damages your house & could have taken your life, that he would at least be concerned about your well being.

It sounds like you have some neighbors! It scares me too that someone living near me could be mt biggest threat - they are privy to your comings & goings

patty58 03-09-2008 08:53 AM

That is so awful that he won't even help. We had a tree fall in the street one time and several neighbors pitched in to help. And my husband helped the guy across the street with one of his trees...and we didn't even know each other. We have since moved and unfortunately have only one tree on our whole 8 acres. I really hope you have electricity back by now.

Here while the neighbor couldn't cut down your entire tree....anything hanging over the property line is fair game for him to cut back.

Well, I did allow for him to cut back part of the tree over his house. I wasn't going to pay for it, because the tree wasn't dead or anything. When the tree people came out, I think they saw that he was being obnoxious and only removed the bare minimum. And had anything happened I would have been trying to do what I could to help. My dad would have been in here in a heartbeat to help.

meganium 03-09-2008 01:15 PM

well Yeah my electric was on when i woke up this morning..My husband has left for the day. My babies staring barking and I looked out and neighbor was down there looking.....He was probably thinking Geesh mike has a lot of work to do...Wonder when he's gonna get it done?....

O well for now it can lay there and maybe in the middle of the night some big gust of wind will come blow it back in his yard.lol

::yelrotflm :yelrotflm - love the positive attitude!

How did your hubby leave with th tree at the end of the driveway? Can't believe your worm of a neighbor

meganium 03-09-2008 03:52 PM

Well last night he did have to cut up a section of it so we could get in the driveway...I was a target when it happened, My sis felt bad that me and my son had sat in the dark for 2 + hours and came and got us, so we went for some friendlys ice cream and some target shopping. My BIL called to tell me.. So my shopping session ended early.

But boy oh boy my banana sundae was oh so good!!!!

I totally agree. Can't something be done to make him liable? It is his tree!

For My Coby 03-09-2008 09:08 PM

Hey are we neighbors??

I'm just sitting here thinking you just HAVE to live two doors down from me! We just HAVE to share the same jerk neighbor.

Laws are laws. But sadly, sometimes there are laws only because of a lack of common sense and courtesy!!

I'm wishing for the big gust of wind to blow it back into his yard!

Shadow 03-09-2008 09:29 PM

Is it just me?? I think the right thing to do is to keep your trees properly pruned so they don't hang in your neighbors yard.
I would call someone and maybe they can make him get rid of all the dead trees.

Grayson's mom 03-10-2008 04:31 AM

If the trees are dead then that's a whole nother story and if you took him to court you would win. You would have to have proof the trees are dead but according to tree law you would win. If in fact the trees are dead

celstu1 03-10-2008 07:03 AM

I think at this point Id be filing in small claims court or something! gggrrr that would make me sooo mad! It was super windy at my house yesterday also! I hate windy days like that, they just annoy me!

meganium 03-10-2008 08:22 AM

Your not even going to believe this. My husband just called to inform me that also during the wind storm. Another tree from neighbors yard fell on his employees car that is in our yard...The car is demolished..The car is a POS to begin with. BUt none the less it was a car..

I will take pictures and tryed to figure out how to post..So you can see the fun i am having...

Chrissy0277 03-10-2008 09:11 AM

I think your hubby should take the peices of the tree hes picking up and put it back in his yard lol after all it is HIS tree
