Acrylic Nails
 
Anyone do their own acrylic nails? I just recently started because its around $60 for a whole set over here in Japan!! Can you believe it?! Anyone have any tips or suggestions that they found worked. I might be on my own on this one.

I had them put on before Thanksgiving and that was a BIG mistake. I had the soaked off and my nails are in horrible condition. It's going to take 6 months or a year to get them back in shape.

Yeah its definitely not for everyone. I have really bad nails (brittle, not smooth) so I keep the acrylics on. Plus I have a bat habit of biting my nails which i don't do when I spend money and time on acrylics.

I tried it once- it is hard I think! I had them done for years, with a little break here and there! My nail are fine, at the bottom- a little weak at top when off!
It is only $25 or $28 here for a full set- 16 or 18 for a fill!
I go back about every 2-3 weeks- so I figure it averages out to about $ 35 a month over a year for me- What can you get for $35 that last all month! It is about the only splurge I ever do!!!
I'm on a break now- I hate it- does not even look like my hands!!!LOL

My girlfriend who is a beautican does nail(not where I live anymore) she says you need the good products, good brushes! I bet you could find help on the net somewhere!!!!!

Yeah, I am orginally from Georgia where 5 years ago I was paying $25 for a full set and about $18 for a fill. I couldnt believe the prices when I moved over here. I think you are right. Good products and good brushes. but again, its hard to find over here. I don't think i can ship that kind of stuff. I guess I need to look into. If not, I am coming back to the states for a week in May and I will have to stock up then.

I used to do mine all the time. It took a while to learn, but I had a lot of fun with it. Just be sure to try and buy your "kits" from a beauty supply store...and get a couple of good brushes! Be patient with it and you'll be a pro in no time :)

$60 is crazy for a full set!

I had them for a few months, they totally destroyed my nails. Like others have said, it took at least 6 months to get my old nails back. I will never get them again.

same thing here. They actually filed down my nail beds until they were so thin and brittle. And I got a fungus (the green stuff)

I gave it up years ago. Would rather have healthy nails and keep them short.
My husband never loved me more or less because of my nails.

I cannot see endangering yourself for "beauty".
so please be careful.
You are depriving your nails of oxygen when you do the acrylic or the silk wraps.
