My daughter is 8 (almost 9) and she know's exactly how babies come out! She has pretty much always known, especially since she has wanted to be a gynecologist for as long as I can remember. Now how exactly they get in there is a different story! She just thinks we have a "Magic Stick" that hangs in the garage!!!!;) |

When my kids were small and asked me questions I wasn't sure how to answer, I would ask them what they thought the answer was. Most of the time their answers were enough to keep them happy and save me from trying to come up with appropriate answere that they could understand. Occaisonally, they already knew the answers and just wanted to be sure. The biggest one that comes to mind was when my dtr asked us where she came from. After alot of hmmmming and trying to change the subject, we asked her where she thought she came from and she said she didn't know but her friend came from Florida. |

I have a 3 year old, and I started as soon as she could understand telling her just where they come from. At this age, body parts arent embarassing or "icky"...and she's genuinely curious, so I think it is just easier to tell the truth. My parents NEVER told me the birds and the bees and unfortunately, I learned it all from kids who didnt hear the truth from their parents. Ok, so she's 6 I think you said? Well, what about showing her on one of her dolls? Or maybe at bath time, hop in the tub with her (do 6 year olds still bathe with their parents?) and show her. I think you just have to word it in 6 year old terms. Good luck, I'm sure whatever you end up doing will be the right choice. :) |

Mandee, I just say be honest w/ her w/o giving TOO much detail. There was one book that a family I used to sit for read to their 3 yr old before her sister was born. I thought it was a BIT too graphic. It covered several topics, not just pregnancy. One part of the book even talked about how it was okay and natural to touch yourself down there to make yourself feel good. One day when I was babysitting she asked me to read it to her. I'd never seen it before and started looking at it. I was like  "how about we read the 3 little pigs instead" |
