Anyone (on the EAST coast) driven to Disney World? To those who live on the EAST coast... Where about did you start? How often did you stop? How did you go about finding a hotel? We are thinking about doing this in the near future so we can take the dogs (and maybe the cat since she LOVES the car/traveling :)). I am normally SO opposed to driving (with just two or three people it isn't any cheaper when you consider gas, hotels, food, and TIME) but with 4 people and animals it'll probably be the best. |
We are only about 6 hours from Disney so we stopped only once or twice, and never had any need for a hotel til we got there. |
I drove from Philly non-stop to Orlando with one other person. It took us about 13.5 hours to get there. |
Can't help ya, but I'm so jealous you lucky duck |
we drove a few years ago. I was just a passenger but for us it was brutal! I don't remember how long it took but I would imagine if people are taking turns driving it wouldn't be too bad. |
We drove the first time we went to disney world which was about 16 yrs ago and it took 16 hrs. My Husband said the speed limits have all changed now and we could probably make it in 15 hrs. I would love to drive again someday. I love seeing the changing of each state. We are always trying to get in as many days as we can there so thats why we fly. I sure would love to take Chachi and Jewels to Florida. When you drive stop in the visitor center in Florida and they give you orange juice |
We used to drive a couple of times a year from Toronto to our condo in Florida, which is a couple hours from Orlando (we fly now, the drive was getting to be too boring lol). We'd take the I-75 all the way from Michigan through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and then it stops at the Florida border. It took about 2 days, and we usually stopped in Chattanooga, TN after the first day. I don't know if thats a practical route for you to take, but its super easy, and theres even a book called "Along the I-75" that has every single exit on the interstate and what restaurants, hotels, gas stations etc. are at each one. Hope you have a great trip! |

If we do, we'll stay at a house off-property which I'm a little hesitant. I LOVE Disney hotels. I wish they had a pet-friendly hotel or at least a floor at one of the hotels. Wouldn't that be amazing? |

We would take I-95 the majority of the way. |
we drive from south jersey to orlando. i walk him at all the gas station stops and we stop at a hotel. i usually sneak him in ...i've found the pet friendly places along i-95 are pretty gross. we have to stop to give him a break. |

My mom lives in VA so we were thinking of stopping at her house and then continuing the rest of the way- for 12 hours (stopping for breaks every few hours. Not to bad! |
I sent you a pm. |

We drive from South Jersey to Marco Island all the time and it takes us about 21 hours. We usually stop near Savannah the first night. I am like you, I hate the long drive. Sometimes I let every one else drive and I fly down a day later and meet them there. :) I'm spoiled that way. |
Hmmm, IDK, I'm on the east coast and I do it easily with no stops.:p LOL, had to tease!:D |

Speaking of Marco Island- only two more weeks until I'm there!! |

We have driven from upstate NY(Beacon) to Orlando. It took us 2 days we stopped every 4-5 hours. depending on the time of day. During the early morning meaning 4am start the first stop was around 9am for about 1 1/2 to 2 fuel up. the next stop was around 12pm-1 to eat and rest. The next stop we took was around 6pm hotel. Quality Inn/ Holiday Inn and the next day we started about 5am. This is a long ride for you and your furbabies. I dont know how well they do in the vehicle but mine got car sick one time on the way and coming back he did well. Hope this helps a little. It all depends on how the family will do on the ride. |

They travel 8-10 hours (round trip) once a month or so. |
Then you should be very good with them not having to make as many stops as we did. Its about a 20 hr ride. |
