Hypothyroidism or pituatary problem? Does anyone here have hypothyroidism? I may have that or a tumor on my pituatary gland. I dont kow much about it but if anyone is living with it Id love to know how life will change and hopefully improve. Can you make me feel good? |
I have just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism - I've been borderline low for a couple of years, but now the doc has decided she should treat it. I haven't yet been for my appointment to talk with her - just got the phone call to come in - so I'm not much help. Here is a link to a website with lots of good information. Also, most of the women in my family have some sort of thyroid problem and they are all doing fine on treatment. Thyroid problems are very treatable, so don't worry yet. Talk to you doc, search out information, you should be fine. http://www.endocrineweb.com/hypo1.html |
Don't work yourself up until you know what you have.....really! I've seen countless numbers of doctors (primary care, endocrinologists, and ear/nose/throat doctors). I show all of the symptoms of hypothyroidism...have had all sorts of tests done (bloodwork, CAT scans, nuclear scans, etc).... What sympotoms are you showing? Also, is one side of your neck larger than the other - if there is a tumor? I have 2 cysts (not nodules and not tumors, as one doctor said), but I also have a muscle mass that has grown over that side of my thyroid and they said they would not do surgery on it right now because it is to invasive because of that muscle mass! So, I walk around w/ one side of my neck larger than the other! Course, I feel it looks worse than it is, but it really isn't that noticable...It is but not too bad! |

Also wanted to point out...sometimes, they are left undiagnosed and sometimes a simple blood test does not show it. |
I just re-read....about the possible tumor on the putitary gland...has that been tested? Have you had a scan? Your putitary gland is pretty much in the middle of your forehead...what symptoms are you having that would suggest that? That gland normally regulates your period, etc. Just asking...because I have been thru it all! I remember not ever having a period (sorry to get so personal) and they would constantly test and check my putitary gland. |
My sister had a pituitary tumor years ago. Treated with medication. She is fine and no longer has to take the medication. What are your symptoms. |
My symptoms started at the beginning of Feb. I havent had my period, I am Exhausted, Im nause ALL day every day, My emotions are all over the place, My boobs are leaking and are now 1 full size bigger, and they hurt so bad I want to scream. They tested my thyroid and prolaction levels and they are both elevated. Theyve ruled out pregnancy and breast cancer. Im miserable most days and my days are only about 8 hours long, I sleep the rest of the time. The medicalI have is only so so. It means it takes forever for anything to happen. Im trying to get an MRI and I need to give more blood work on March 7. I dont want to whine but I feel so freakin bad and the help moves so slow. I really just need reassurance that this will get better, that it is treatable. My husband is going to Iraq in 2 weeks, and I really dont have any other family, and most of my friends either have no idea what Im going through or are so stressed out with their own problems that they arent strong enough to help. I need a shoulder to lean on, can I lean on you guys? |
She had the leaking too; quite frankly a lot of the symptoms you are having. Does the high prolactin indicate it is a pituitary tumor? I know it sounds scary, but like I said, she was on meds for a while and no longer has the tumor and is symptom free. Best of luck to you! |
I am sorry you are feeling so bad! I hope they are able to properly diagnose you soon so you can get feeling better. I have hypothyroidism and the syptoms I had were extreme exhaustion, very heavy periods and consequent anemia from that. I also had weight gain. The medication took care of the heavy periods, anemia and exhaustion. I feel much better now! Juat need to lose the weight. |
My sister had a pituitary tumor years ago. They operated and removed it at Loma Linda University in Southern CA. They went in through her mouth (under her top lip) and through her nasal cavity. There are no scars at all, and she said it was a rather easy surgery considering. If you want her email to talk with her about it, PM me and I will give you her email. Best wishes and *hugs* hope everything works out! |
Oh, I forgot to add the labwork came out low normal. My OB didn't do anything about it because it was within normal. But when I went to my regular doctor she said that because I was having syptoms she would treat me anyway. I am so glad she did! Just wish I had found out a lot sooner, before I gained so much weight. |
I have hypothyrodism and Hashimoto Disease. I had 1/2 of my thyroid removed because there was a nodule on the backside of my thyroid that was in a place that was dificult to biopsy..... so it was taken out. Nodule was benign (about 95% of them are). I feel much better.... now I just take my daily dose of Synthroid and am trying to lose a little of the weight that I have put on. (actually a LOT of the weight that I put on.... but one step at a time!! ) Hope all goes well with you...... continue to see your doctor (or ask to see a specialist, until you get behind what is making you feel bad). |
I was finally diagnosed a couple months back. I am on syntheroid and it's definitely helping. Recently the dr lowered the dosage due to a change in my blood work but he had to change it again because it was too low and my cycle stopped again and my neck started getting fat right away. |
I was finally diagnosed a couple months back. I am on syntheroid and it's definitely helping. Recently the dr lowered the dosage due to a change in my blood work but he had to change it again because it was too low and my cycle stopped again and my neck started getting fat right away. Why don't they do a sonogram to check it. My dr had the sonogram done. You know I have been having cycle problems for a while now. Finally when it went missing for almost five months and no I sure wasn't pregnant I started harrassing my dr. My gyno said oh your levels are within normal range. Yeah they were but something was wrong. So thankfully my regular dr was like ok your neck and the whole missing period and fatigue still worries me so he sent me for the thyroid sono...thank god. Amazing how the dr's tend to just jump at those numbers and are ready to dismiss thing. Because my system was all messed up the dr had also found a few enlarged glands by my left breast. I also had that sono and then saw a breast specialist. So far so good that is fine but I will be seeing her again for recheck in May. Stay strong and you can always pm me if you want to whine. I know how miserable the fatigue is and the worry. I was scared so bad over the enlarged glands. |
Some of your symptoms are definitely different from hypothyroid but you never know. I have had hypothyroid since I was 12 years old. Generally I feel good but even with meds my metabolism is not good. My hair went grey early, I also had one breast that leaked not sure if this was connected to the hypo or not. I also suffer with heavy periods and anemia but I also have endometriosis so who knows. I wasn't able to have children which could also be either from the hypo or endo. I wish you the best of luck, keep us posted. We're here if you need to talk. |
