I hope you get better. The flu sux. When I get the flu, I have to go to the hospital because I get it really bad, but what does help me a little bit is theraflu. I drink it as it's required (can't remember how many times a day) and it atleast helps with the bodyaches, and helps me fall asleep. Other then that I would just rest it off, sometimes it takes time. |
Tylenol Flu and Cold meds help...... Vicks Vapor rub works, too! (I usually rub in on my chest and neck... and then I wrap a scarf or a towel around my neck). It feels really good.... and will also help with congestion. Hope you feel better soon. |

Thanks everyone! |
I am on day 6 of the flu and almost better. All I suggest are the things already mentioned, too I know Sprite always does wonders for me when I am not feeling well! I sure hope you feel better here soon:) |
Oh No Melonie!! I hear you...we are all there now! Vitamin C supplements are wonderful! Plenty of OJ, foods loaded w/ minerals and plenty of rest...keep hydrated too! I read that if you have a sore throat w/ it, you should use honey, cayenne and garlic (pressed) - mix together and take 1/2 tsp every hour. This helps w/ your sinus congestion too. Honey is a natural antibacterial and coats the throad, the heat from the cayenne is to get your blood vessels enlarged and moving and the garlic (natural antibacterial and immune booster) gets into your blood to help you recover. I would love to hear more tips/tricks too! Hope you get well soon! |
I had just received this email today from Prevention or Women's Health or something like that...pretty ironic timing, so I thought I would share! Fruit fights the germs we're exposed to in the winter. "The vitamin load keeps your immune level high, allowing you to fend off colds and flu," says Amy Howell, PhD, a research scientist at Rutgers University. Fruits also reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. Try the five below to give your immune system a boost. Super fruits: How they help your health bonus Apples: The most popular source of antioxidants in our diet, one apple has an antioxidant effect equivalent to 1,500 mg of vitamin C. Apples are loaded with protective flavonoids, which may prevent heart disease and cancer. Papayas: With 250 percent of the RDA of vitamin C, a papaya can help kick a cold right out of your system. The beta-carotene and vitamins C and E in papayas reduce inflammation throughout the body, lessening the effects of asthma. Cranberries: Cranberries have more antioxidants than other common fruits and veggies. One serving has five times the amount in broccoli. Cranberries are a natural probiotic, enhancing good bacteria levels in the gut and protecting it from foodborne illnesses. Grapefruit: Loaded with vitamin C, grapefruit also contains natural compounds called limonoids, which can lower cholesterol. The red varieties are a potent source of the cancer-fighting substance lycopene. Bananas: One of the top food sources of vitamin B6, bananas help reduce fatigue, depression, stress, and insomnia. Bananas are high in magnesium, which keeps bones strong, and potassium, which helps prevent heart disease and high blood pressure. Take a shine to shellfish Getting adequate selenium (plentiful in oysters, lobsters, crabs, and clams) increased immune cell production of proteins called cytokines in a British study of 22 adults. The scientists say that cytokines help clear flu viruses out of your body. Line up fatty fish Of all fats, omega-3s-found in fish such as Pacific salmon -- created the highest blood levels of flu-fighting T cells and interferon-gamma cytokines in a British study of 150 people. Boost T cells with tea Ten Harvard subjects who drank 5 daily cups of black tea for 2 weeks had T cells that secreted 10 times more virus-fighting interferon, compared with nine who drank the same amount of a tea substitute. Get milk Dairy products provide conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which raised immune system response to the flu in an animal study. Early research suggests that CLA may have a similar effect in humans. Stock up on the basics An overall healthy diet builds resistance to the flu virus, but focus on these nutrients especially: Protein: 5 to 6.5 ounces of chicken, fish, or meat for women; 6 to 8 for men Vitamins A, B6: In five daily servings of red or orange fruits and green leafy veggies Vitamin E: In canola, peanut, or olive oil; almonds; sunflower seeds; and hazelnuts Iron, zinc, vitamin B12: 100% daily value in a multivitamin |
Oh, no.......the flu is in Bellevue, WA and getting closer to me! I recommend lots of fluids, vitamin C, hot tea with honey and lemon juice......or hot tea with honey and whiskey AND lots of rest. |
if u catch the beginning signs of the flu, then tamiful will help knock it out sooner! other wise, gargling (sp check) with warm salt water helps the throat, and i always use dayquil and nyquil hope that helps! *i'm 20 and have had the flu 4 times in the past 5 years* |
Gargling w/ warm salt water (we use sea salt) works wonders!!! I just did that last night!! I also read that you can gargle w/ tea tree oil (don't swallow) and that helps...which tea tree oil is an antibacterial too, but boy is it nasty smelling! |

I just got over the flu and I havent had it in about 10 years. (I dont get the flu shot, I got so sick the one time I had it). |
Quote:
no, i have never had a flu shot because growing up i was always told if u got the shot, then there was a really good chance that u would in fact get the flu! ahaha i'm just really susceptible to it i guess, i mean if anyone around me gets it then i will too! |

I think you should consider the flu shot having gotten sick that many times; esp. being so young. I personally dont get it, I think I am allergic, but everyone else I know does (we get it free - I work fo a hospital). They really say it helps but I am not sure. |
Not home remedies, but I get Tylenol cold and flu, or something like that- it does not cure it- but if you take it when you should it does make you feel better! Also robitusin(SP?) makes a gel pill that works good! And I take Bayer Back and body , for about everything! They are great for me! |
