I need some help here!!!!!!!!!!! I need some ideas. Within the next 2 weeks, I will not be working anymore and will be concentrating on my Paw Passions. I want to get my orders out quicker, more efficiently, and try to make just a tad bit of money doing it. As it stands right now, I am losing money because of shipping costs. for example, today I shipped out an order that was only about a $13 order but it costed me almost $18 to ship it priority!!!! and I am talking about shipping within the US. I was blown away! it's because the item had to go into a box that was considered oversize...yet it weighed less than 2 lbs. Seriously...it was insane. I have shipped to canada for close to the same price before. So needless to say, I need to find some other options for shipping. I could vacuum seal the packages and get them into smaller boxes/envelopes...but then they would be wrinkly by the time the customer got them. That is unacceptable. Any ideas???? What in the H am I doing wrong????? |
I do not have any suggestions, but I will say that US Postage is getting out of hand. Is UPS, FedEx or DHL more reasonable??? Good luck! |

Fed Ex is cheaper than UPS - UPS is expensive! Sometimes twice as much as USPS. I use USPS Priority right now too but we will add the others once we get our new system going. You could check into Parcel Post? It's 3-10 days not 2-3, but some people don't care about speed and if they do, then let them pay more! I am learning the hard way that you can't just give everything away. The answer might be that you have to charge more for the product or more for shipping. Could you send the beds un-stuffed? It's easy to find poly-fill or even buy pillows and use the stuffing from the pillows. That's the easy part. It's the sewing that's the hard part (I am currently banned from using the rotary cutter due to nearly needing stitches.... ) Maybe give people the option of paying more for shipping or stuffing themselves? |
What about First Class mail?? |

First class can only be used if the item is under 1lb. I think shipping stuff parcel would work, then offering Priority if a customer really needs the item soon. I know for the majority of the stuff I order, I'm fine with it being shipped parcel, sometimes it gets here just as quick as if I had used priority. |

I don't know if this is much help, but we ship a lot of stuff to Africa and DHL is ALWAYS cheaper, even within the us! There are also flat rate boxes at the post office anything you can fit in them ships for just under $9 and there are a few different sizes. I wish I had more answers, maybe charge extra for special shipping? |
The usps rates are ridiculous anymore, and going up again in May. The only thing I can think of is the flat rate boxes...that's still expensive at somewhere over $8 for the box, but it sure beats $18! Is it fleece things you're sending? If so, that doesn't wrinkle so badly...wouldn't it just poof right out again after being opened? |
This is why i don't sell blankets or beds. I can't figure out how to mail them at a price that people can afford. :( |

I looked for a flat rate box but couldn't fit the bed in any of them. I am going to keep looking. I agree that shipping priority should cost the customer extra, but in this particular case, it took me longer than usual to ship the box because of my recent health issues, so I couldn't possibly charge more for shipping if it is my fault for shipping late. make sense??? So I really need to find a less expensive route to take in situations like this. |

I will look into fed-ex then!!!! I don't think I would sell them un-stuffed just because I think that is one of the things that makes my beds great...the way they are stuffed. Plus, the customer would have to do some sewing after stuffing the bed to close up the end :( now...you better be careful!!! you need your fingers, silly :) |
Don't get me wrong. I loved being in the GE. I rarely ship anything if ever. But when hubby came home and told me how much it was to ship it. ($16) I nearly fell over. |
I havent seen your beds yet but would it be possible to put a zipper in them and keep the stuffing seperate so you could shrink wrap them and let the purchaser fill and zip. |
