How do YOU make RICE? I cannot make rice for the life of me.... I need a NO FAIL... rice recipe... |
Are you wanting to make white or brown rice? Brown rice needs to be cooked a lot longer. I usually use 2 1/2 cups of water (or chicken broth is even better!) for each cup of dry rice. Cooking time depends on how much you make. I usually make a whole bag at once and freeze it for later (with black beans), so I'm not sure on cooking times for small amounts... |
crap.. brown rice.. should of clarified! |
Here's a site with some good tips for white rice... http://www.taunton.com/finecooking/a...perfectly.aspx EDIT: Oops, sorry I'll find one for brown rice. :) |
INSTANT!!! HAHA I am like you.. I think its inherited from my mom who also cannot make rice. So I found (not that long ago actually) Instant rice. You boil water, add a cup of rice and then take it off the burner and let it sit for 5 mins! DONE!!! perfect every time as long as you have just the right amount of water! |
I have it! I couldn't make rice either. But found this recipe years ago & it works! 1 Cup rice, 2 cups water. (or 2 cups rice, 4 cups water...like that, thats the ratio). Add some salt. Then heat on stove until just boiling, then turn down the heat to really low. Have a lid on it. Don't lift the lid ever during this process. Set timer for 14 minutes (thats for the 1 cup rice/2 cups water ratio). When 14 minutes are up, then lift lid & fluff rice with a fork. It works for me. It's an old recipe from an old lady in a cajun cookbook I have. I use real rice, white (not the instant kind). This recipe it turns out kind of sticky, but I like it that way. |
Oh, sorry. I don't know about brown. |
thanks! |

Add a pinch of salt and a pat of butter, if you like. Add 1 cup regular white rice (not minute rice). Stir. When it starts boiling again (only a few seconds) cover, reduce heat to medium-low and set the timer for 20 minutes. Do not stir or open the pot. AFter 20 minutes, remove from heat. You can allow it to set for 5 minutes if you like. Then serve. |

Wasn't there a thread on this same topic not too recently? |
was there? |
Just buy the box of minute rice, you boil the water, then remove from the burner, add the rice, stir, cover, wait 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork..That's all I've ever used, and it comes out perfect everytime.. |

I cook my rice in the microwave because I can't seem to get it right on the stove:rolleyes: My microwave has a setting for brown rice so I just set that and let it cook that way. |

aside from the other great suggestion of ordering from the menu (which is REALLY fail proof) try this stuff, it is microwavable and you boil it in a bag (supplied) |
