Korean Company to Clone Dead Pets http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,330897,00.html In a move possibly more fitting to a plot in Stephen King’s "Pet Sematary," a Korean company plans to offer animal lovers the chance to "bring back" their dead companions through cloning, the Guardian reported. RNL Bio on Friday announced it would work with Seoul National University scientists, who created the first cloned canine, "Snuppy," to offer customers a re-creation of their deceased pet for $150,000. The company received its first order from a California woman seeking to clone a dead pit bull that saved her life from an attack by another dog, the Guardian reported. In working on Bernann McKunney’s request, scientists were to use preserved ear tissue from the dog and said the chance of success is around 25 percent. |
creepy there are plenty of pets already in this world i just dont see the point |
Great another Pit Bull. |
IMO...cloning is NOT a good thing....AT ALL! I know many people talk about cleaning cattle, etc for the meat...BUT I would perfer NOT to have any cloning done...on anything...PERIOD!! Imagine eating a cloned meat product...what chemicals/etc are in that that will then be in our system??!! It is bad enough all of the hormones and extra junk that is in our foods as it is! THIS IS CRAZINESS!! |
I saw that and as much as I LOVE my individual pets, there is just NO Way. The pet may look the same, but it is not the same pet. I could just never do it. |
I agree....as much as I love all of my animals...there is just no way (I am going to the the pet gem thing - no matter the cost)....I don't think it would be the same either....and what if it is like the old Pet Cemetery movie (is that the name)...the animals are mean! hee,hee |
 I don't know....this is just too wierd for me. As much as I love my pets I don't think I would want to bring them back from the dead. I heard about this woman and her cat a couple of years ago...couldn't believe it. http://money.cnn.com/2004/12/23/news..._cat/index.htm |
NO WAY.....I can't believe some one actually did it! I am sorry, but I think (IMO) this is just NOT right! It worries me to no end!! |

Remind me what this is. There is a little bell going off in my head; I have heard of people doing it before. There used to be a show about people that ran a funeral home and I think one of the people had jewlery made out of a loved one...is it bone or?? I just can't recall. |
http://www.pet-gems.com/ They make a stone for you to wear out of the ashes...so your beloved furbaby is always w/ you! I (for certain reasons) have never been a fan of cremation...but didn't want to just bury Mojo somewhere (as I am sure we will move)....and the thought of ashes being in a little box....hmmm...I don't know...BUT this is wonderful! (IMO) I don't know of anyone (personally) who has had it done though. |
Pet cloning?.... I find that scary... and creepy... |
Just because you have your pet cloned, doesn't mean it will have the same personality or act the same. And in some cases it may not even look the same. There are environmental factors that can affect appearance as well. A&M cloned a calico cat and the clone had a completely different coat pattern. Also, cloned animals never live that long. Dolly the sheep died of an early age from problems that normally affect older animals. With cloned cattle, we don't see this because they are slaughtered early in life. But with cloning you are talking an aged cell and relicating it...so the clone is already "pre-aged". I just don't think it's a good thing...these clones are not going to live as long as the normal life expectancy. I would never clone one of my pets. I want Lacy to live forever, but cloning her isn't going to bring her back...it would just be a dog that looked like her and maybe acted like her...it wouldn't be the same. |
Okay I agree with Jenn. Didn't we learn from Godsend that clones are evil and WILL kill you?!! Seriously, it is creepy. As much as I love Sugar (or even any person in my life) cloning would never be a consideration for me. |
