I think the salespeople vacuum your mattress because they know alot of "stuff" will vacuum up. I mean, how often do we really vacuum our mattresses  . |

I think that I have owned them all!! LOL I had a Kenmore..... lasted about 6 years..... it died I had a Kirby.... loved it, but it was heavy... Ex-hubby still has it I had a Dyson...... worked great..... lasted about 7 years (not bad for the $$$) I now have a Rainbow and a Oreck. The Rainbow will suck up ANYTHING and does a wonderful job.... I also like the scents that you can use in the water... very nice and fragrant. It is a bit clumsy to pull around. My Oreck is very light weight, and great for daily vacs. (also for my bad back). I use the Rainbow for my "deep cleaning" about every 2-3 weeks. |
Raised with a Kirby...decent sweeper but everyone is right HEAVY, now the shampooer is great. Dyson have one hate it. But I am going to look into the Kenmore sounds like a good machine. Good luck! |
My husband was "wowwed" by the Kirby salesman too. When I think back to how young and naive we were. Fell for the whole, "well, let me call my boss" thing to get us a better price. I told my hubby if he wanted to sweep with the 75 pound monster (might be exaggerating, but only by 2 or 3 pounds!), we'd buy it. The sad thing about a Kirby is that once you get one, you'd better love it, because it will last forever. I want to get a Dyson. People who have one sure seem to like them. |
If you want just about the best, go central vac. My sister just put it in her house- in her kitchen they put a new thing in central vac- a dust pan!! It is like a little vent in baseboard- floor level- for small jobs- sweep it in front of it- open vent it sucks it in! Central vacs are the bomb! Cost more than a Kirby though, but do increase the value of the house, are pretty much once a year maintence, and last a life time! |

When my DH and I moved into our first house in '96, we bought a Kirby from a young door to door salesman. I still use it today for the basement in our new house.(This house has central vac) I do agree that the ones at Wal Mart (Bisell , etc) are just as good and half the price although I am not sure they would last half as long as the kirby.JMO |
The new Kirby's are not made with steel anymore. So they're not as heavy as they use to be. I pushed it and it was very easy to push. |
