where in the world does the money go???????????? you know i loovvveee goodwill right!but i am just wondering where in the world does all that money go? me and my hubby go there hoping to find good stuff and the prices are outrageous! i mean they get all this tuff for free and yet they sell these items so expensive! i mean since they get this stuff for free even if they sold everything for 1 dollar they would be making a 100% profit  so being the person i am i just had to ask one of the managers so this is what i asked her: i am just wondering where all your proceeds go? you guys are a billion dollar "charity" but i never hear or see the proceeds going to something useful. i only see the money going to building more goodwills. guess what she did not have an answer for me she was stumped! then one of her employees said it doesn't go to us that's for sure!hehehe. sorry i just had to get that off my chest it is really bothering me! i feel like calling dateline nbc. |
Hmmm, never thought about it. Something to think about though. |
Well I always wondered that too, and I found this on : www.goodwill.org "More than 84 percent of Goodwill’s total revenues are channeled into education and career services, as well as other critical community programs." But who really knows..lol |
we have enough trouble getting our bedget from the friggen governor |
My Goodwills are super cheap! Salvation Army is even cheaper -- like .40 cents for a shirt or whatever. They do a lot in Chicago. they built a beautiful little league baseball park in an inner city neighborhood - just one thing I can think of off the top of my head. |
The last time I was in goodwill I saw that their glasswear was $1 a glass. I can find it cheaper at Target! |

I used to help run a charity shop here in UK. Basically we had to rent a shop premises, pay for public liability insurance, property insurance, security alarms, fire alarms, gas and electricity, phone line, and a storage facility as we grew bigger, which in turn needed public liability insurance, property insurance, security alarms and fire alarms. What came in we paid out which was why in the end we stopped :( |
When I first arrived in NYC 12 years ago, a friend of mine and I went shopping uptown. I left to go home and she continued shopping. She went into a Goodwill shop and found an Hermes Birkin bag for $48!! She had it authenticated and fixed up, which ended up costing her a fortune, but nothing compared to the $10,000 it would have cost new. Never underestimate the goodwill shop :p |

NOW THAT'S A GOOD STORY! Samantha from Sex and the City would be jealous ;) |
Here in Skagen every thursday you can go to the salvation army and fill a big sack with clothes for 100 kroner (15$). Since Skagen is the place to relax for the rich and famous they drop of their used clothes there and you can often find Buberry coats, Chanel dresses etc etc. I have never been there cause I don't care for designer clothes, but I like the idea of a bum running around in a real expensive coat :) |
