I want the D&B giraffe bag. That will be my 1st designer purse and most likely my last. I just dont spend that much on purses but I really love that one

BabyFidgette 02-12-2008 01:24 PM

eBay. But you have to know what's real and fake. ;)

IluvLucy 02-12-2008 01:39 PM

I have a couple of COACH bags that I bought for myself. But it doesn't matter whose name is on a purse. If it's one I like and I want it, I buy it. I do look for quality and I tend to buy neutral colors that I can use for years.

Throw me in with those DIAMOND girls:) Now, I LOVE diamonds.

I don't really have diamonds! I got a gorgeous engagement ring from my ex, but he took it back! That one was spectacular, but again... not mine anymore... other than that.. i have a 1 carat journey pendant necklace that I LOVE and wear all the time... I get tons of compliments on it! I don't have a lot of jewelry though! I like jewelry but that is one of things that I can't spend a ton of money on. Id rather have shoes & purses LOL I could count the number of pieces of 'real' jewelry I own on 1 hand! HAHA My ex (was with him for 10 years of my life) was not big into jewelry at all so I didnt get much!

Ok, we talk a lot about Coach and LV and D&B purses on here.... many of you have multiple designer purses that range from $400 up to $1000. How do you afford them? I got my 2nd coach at the Coach factory store for $225 and the wallet for $107. I was sooooo very happy but felt so guilty spending $350 on a pocketbook and wallet. I have another coach pocketbook and wallet that were a gift to me, but thats it. How do you all afford them? I see teenagers walking around with Coach all the time now... I can tell when they are real and I wonder how does a 17 year old afford a $400 pocketbook? I want to be able to buy MORE of them, maybe an LV but there is NO WAY I could afford to even buy one used for $500! Any ideas?? Or do I just save save save then blow it all on a pocketbook and matching wallet (cuz you need those to match right?)? LOL :D

When I was raising 6 sons, I had friends who had very high paying jobs who would spend whatever it took to make their kids happy and to help with the quilt trip of leaving them so much. Their kids alway had expensive clothes. Most of those kids grew up miserable because the always wanted more and more. My boys were also really well dressed, but not in designer clothes, which to me is still a big rip off, and they were very happy and well adjusted. "Things" do NOT make you happy if you think about it. It's just a status thing, so I wouldn't worry about not having a lot of them. I have none, and believe me, I could afford as many as I wanted. I'd rather make my money work better for me than to buy something just because it has someones name name on it. ;)

LV

Has anyone ever watched Kimora Lee Simmons shows...shes in in the Fab lane of course..
Her house is not real...her closet has shelves built above the clothes for her LV collection..it goes around the entire room..., plus she has cloth covers for her suitcases so they stay nice...she had 100's of LV everything..some made just for her!!
Maybe, you can write her and ask if she has any old ones for charity (you) and make room for new..LOL

Well....it helps if you get a discount from work;) I do love my vintage Lanvin shirt dresses, but I hardly ever wear them:(

I can only dream about the super high end stuff:sleep: but it wouldn't fit my life though.

She is supposedly one of LV's biggest customers, and seeing her closet I believe it.

I just wait until my honey buys himself something new and expensive and then I pick up that bag i've been wanting. I also give my hardly used bags to my mom and he likes that they arent just on display in my closet. I bought my daughter her first coach bag and I had to have one that coordinated;) . I don't really wear much jewelry so I guess I just pick and choose, trade one expensive pleasure for another. Honestly I think the best thing would be to save and think of it as your reward to yourself for working so hard.:)

MissPinkBarbie 02-12-2008 02:28 PM

..From my work...  ;) I also was able to get a couple on discount from "insiders"..;) That's one of the prettier sides to being in Fashion.

I have a decent collection from my few years of making ALOT of money.. I have since took a break to be a stay at home mama! So therefore, my spending expenses are not what they used to be.

My collection is mostly French designers as I favor them more. LV, Chanel, Yves Saint LAurent, Gucci, Hermes, Chloe, Versace.. and a couple others.

But I am a loyal Chanel & LV customer!

MissPinkBarbie 02-12-2008 02:32 PM

Honestly though, this is the fisrt time in years that I am using my bags for loonger periods. (My friend used to joke how I manage to keep my LVs "light" -they darken over time--lol..cuz I usually switch every other day!)

DH has certainly knocked reality into me and have not even gotten a new bag for over a year now. We've been married two years...

We've also got new priorities now...Gotta keep the babies in high style now! haha! :D

Baby stuff is expensive, y'all!

I'm the same way. I do not live beyond my means. All of my bags are bought with cash. I have NEVER put one on a credit card. I don't want to get into debt over a bag.

I'm a handbags and shoe girl as well, but I won't buy something if I don't have the money to pay for it either. I HATE having credit card debt so I won't carry over a balance from month to month.

I'm not one to buy every handbag I see. I allow myself 1 nice handbag per year so I'm able to afford it that way. If I work extra and I have extra money, I tend to splurge on myself...and it's usually for purses :D

I'm incredibly disappointed at the moment though--my Kate Spade bag broke so I have to send it in for repairs...I hope they will be able to fix it :(

I got my first Coach bag about 2 years ago. I thought it was SO stupid to spend that much for a purse and wallet, but my husband wanted to give me something nice:) We've just recently had his child support end, so we can afford nice stuff once in a while now. Before, we had to pay the support and there was never any extra after bills. So I get a new bag about twice a year now, and have three Coach and one Dooney. I can't justify the expense of a LV or any of the other high end designers, even their smallest bags are a fortune:eek: I'd love a Chanel (and do have sunglasses by them that have held up SO well:thumbup: ) but those are out of my reach:laugh:

Anyway, the best thing by far about Coach and D&B bags is that they hold up SO well! So I figure they are an investment, because I'll be able to carry them for years and years:thumbup:

Janie616 02-13-2008 06:20 AM

There are a lot of great purse designers who are lesser known and fabulous quality. Check out Bergeren, Gustto, Dutchy, Tano, Moni Moni. All much nicer than Coach or Dooney IMO and you wont see everyone and theur mother carryinf a version of your bag. I don't put LV in the same category as any of them. It's a high end handbag and all of the others are mid range. .

i agree,

personally i belive in quality not quantity, i would much rather have ONE nice bag then carry around 10 cheep ones

Peters 02-13-2008 07:57 AM

i ahve 4 dooney and my eyes on a new coach usually hubby buys them for me for christmas or birthday

akcyorkies4u 02-13-2008 11:15 AM

I know that this sort of stuff doesn't make me happy. I'm just not that sort of gal. "I think" a lot of these items are just for "SOME" to keep up with the Jones so to say. Its all in what YOU want. Whats good for "me" isn't good for everyone. Knowing that I can afford to buy any of these items is a blessing.

Knowing the bag would end up a diaper bag is PRICELESS :p
