Well, I'm having weight loss surgery! I've posted before and have gone back and forth with this decision, but after a lot of research and pm's to a member here who's had it, I'm having the surgery 3/12/08. I'm excited, and scared - but I feel it's the best way for me. I've lost and gained weight all my life ( 2 or 3 people at least:D ) but I always gain it back and then some. My husband was a tall, big boned man - and was morbidly obese. He died at 49 from a massive heart attack. I've decided I don't want to die that way. I've been afraid since he died that the same thing would happen to me and I just can't let that happen. I want to have grandchildren and be a grandma. I want to watch them be born and grow up. I have to do something to help myself, so I'm having the RNY. |
I just wanted to wish you the best and say good luck. I know it wasn't an easy decision to make, but like you said health comes first. Hugs and God Bless ...Pris |

Good for you and BEST of luck! I think you are making a wise decision for yourself and your health. Remember the surgery helps with the initial loss, but you need to change your lifestyle in order to keep it off. I had a friend who had the surgery, her whole family is morbidly obese. About 2 years after the surgery, she is back to being morbidly obese bc she never did anything to change the way she ate, or started working out, nothing. I think you are brave and very proactive :) |

THE VERY BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ~~!!! My friend wants that surgery so bad and they turned her down (insurance) - I don't think it's right to decline something like this when it can save someones life. I'm so happy for you - I think if you feel this is for you then GO FOR IT !!! PLEASE keep us posted and I'm here if you need to talk ~ what happened to your husband :( (hugs) is NOT going to happen to you. |

I am happy for you. I work in an emergency room and I have several patients that had the surgery. I have taken care of several patients for years that were overweight and then one of them would come to the er and they were not overweight anymore and then another one would come in and so on. I could not believe how good they looked and how happy they looked. They just glowed and had a bounce in their step that was not there before. Every one of them said that they are glad that they had the surgery and that they have not had any problems with it. Good luck... |
My aunt had the surgery and she is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Happy with the results she was a 26 and now she is a size 6-8 :D and she looks great and feels great!!! Me and my mother want to have the lap band surgery the beginning part of next year we want to loose 70 lbs each :) |
I am so happy for you. As you know, I am six years post op and you read my profile on Obesityhelp.com. I had some rough times in the beginning but have been mostly alright and couldn't be happier. Even thru the rough times, I have had no regretss. |
Both my mother-in-law & father-in-law have had that surgery.... They look fantastic and have been able to get off most all their meds. There are a couple they still have to take but it has decreased GREATLY. They FEEL better, are more active and are just happier all around (not that they were unhappy before, it just helped being able to be more active) Anyway.... I wish you tons of luck and hoping for a wonderful outcome to allow for many years of good health and fun!! |
Thank you all. I feel really good about this and look forward to coming off some of my meds. I'll be keeping everyone updated as things progress. I'm planning to take my laptop to the hospital with me:D |
good luck! I have heard good things about the results. Hope your surgery goes well. Keep us posted. I will keep you in my thoughts in the beginning of March! |
