arthritis and allergies... life stinks
 
So I went to the doctor this morning and he says I have arthritis in both of my knees. Okay... I'm 20. I have at least 50 more years of pain and agony.

On top of that, the weather that keeps changing is causing my allergies to act up and my head is all sorts of stuffy.

Life stinks right now... but that's okay because I got my puppies to give me kisses! Puppy kisses make everything all better!

Did he recomment any preventative stuff for the arthritis?

Allergies stink for sure. Coupled with Arthritis it's a real PIA.

Bless your heart....arthritis at 20. Has he offered anything for it...shots, surgery.

Yes...but look how lucky you are to be living in the year 2008 instead of 1950...they can do so much for these things..and what they will invent in the next 10 yrs of your life will be amazing...chin up!

That is so young, you poor thing! On the positive side if there aren't any options now, surely there will be eventually. Medicine seems to advance so fast.

I am so sorry to hear this, it's hard finding out you have any illness at any age, but it seems like it's worse hearing the age of someone so young.

I have a son who was born with a Primary Immune Deficiency and one of the side effects from it is Juvenal Rheumatoid Arthritis, He developed it at age 2 years with it effecting his knees, hips, fingers and shoulders. At first we could only treat him with prescription liquid Naperson. Now that he is 13 he voices when he he is having trouble and pain better then when he was a baby so they are able to treat him with other meds and they seem to help him be comfortable. Its sad to see a kid not able to pick up a fork or pencle because his fingers are so swollen they look like a Ball Park Frank cooked up!

You are lucky that allot of research has been done and their is allot of options in treatments out their. It sucks when one is young and has to face living the rest of your life with some illness:(

These allergies are killin me today! What sucks is I want to take more benadryl and go back to bed, but I have to go to work. lol

Ashley - go to the drugstore and get yourself a Neti Pot. They will be where cold & allergy stuff is found. The one typically sold is called "Sinucleanse" and it comes with little individual packets of the salt you use. It will sound disgusting and gross, but I promise you if you do it, you will feel 100% better. Don't spend the $ to get extra salt packets, instead look up "neti pot salt" on Ebay. For $2.95 you can get a bag that will last a long time. 1/8 of a tsp is the recommended salt usage (don't use table salt, it needs to be non-iodized - sea salt is okay). It takes a few tries to get the right forward and side head tilt. Keep your mouth open and breath as you are pouring. It really doesn't feel like anything. It isn't like drowning, nothing like inhaling water, not even like a nasal spray.

Particularly for those with allergies, daily use will bring tremendous relief. I no longer get my bi-weekly allergy shots. I've been using the Neti Pot daily for 5 years now!!!!!!

Honey, I feel so bad for you. I have had 2 orthoscopic surgeries and after 2 different series of injections finally had both knees replaced about 6 months ago....but I'm 60 not 20. I certainly hope you get some relief....in both areas.

Looks like you have already resigned yourself to a life of pain till you are 70. Then what?? If you can just find out all the all natural things you can do for arthritis and get it in your head you will live pain free for at least another 100 years, you will. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis 30 years ago and have been able to keep it a bay with the right foods and vitamins. Get a book on problems and natural cures. To start you out, start taking Stress Tabs with Iron and Evening primrose. Next, do not eat or drink any citrus foods, and NO sugar. These just make it worse. Foods can work against you or with you depending on your problem. Same for vitamins.
So get going and don't feel sorry for yourself. ;)
