We want our nights back...
 
Gizmo and I that is... his dad .. my hubby has had the worst time with this coughing at night.. he is keeping himself and us up....anyone have any suggestions ? NYquil DOES NOT work with him...:eek:

Crating him might help... Then you can put the crate far far away from you two. But make sure not to let him out when he wimpers... then you'll never be able to crate train him!

i made him so oregano tea last night went and got him cough suppresants(sp) and nothing seems to work...

Cindy, I'm sorry....I have no useful suggestion, (short of crating dh :p ), as I am going through much the same here. I've picked up a respiratory bug (first one in years); but, thank the good Lord, it does not keep me or the family up.

If dh decides to crate me, I'll let you know how that works out ;).

By using a cool mist vaporizer near the bed helps too. Keeps the nose and throat moist or something. It works for us.

;) Your Dh might try cognac or whiskey before going to bed, if it doesn't work, then maybe you could try ALOT of whiskey or cognac and then you won't really mind if he coughs?;) Seriously though, I use cognac for myself (about 1 oz) and it seems to soothe the throat and stop the coughing. It also makes me feel reallly good too!:p

One tablespoon of honey!!! It works like a charm. When they were taking all the meds for kids off the shelf I didnt know what to do. Well someone had done a study and found it to work better then the meds. We tried it and it worked great!!! Let me know if you try it and if it works for you.

Vick's Vapo Rub.... my hubby has had it for WEEKS and now has shared with me... it is not very quiet around here.... Vick's is all that works for me.

It'll help for him to sleep with his head/chest slightly more elevated. Stick an old pillow under the mattress at the head of the bed on his side, it's easier than trying to prop up on pillows;) It's so horrible when you can't stop coughing, not only do you not get any sleep, but then you feel bad because you're keeping your spouse up:( I hope he's better soon!

I know on the news here, they have talked about so much that is going around! :eek:

My DH used Mucenix (whichever is for coughs and colds) and it worked GREAT!

I remember getting some kind of nasty red liquid from the doctor a few years back (something w/ codiene) that worked well...just nasty!

Honey does work to quit the coughs!! :thumbs_up

Vicks Vapor Rub may work too to help w/ congestion (which will help w/ the coughs). I heard you can put it on the soles of your feet (then put socks on) and it absorbs into your system to work better? --never tried that though.

Glad you all slept better, I was going to suggest the honey, I saw something on tv that claimed it had many benefits, especially soothing and coating the throat. I would also try the humidifier with vicks. My mom would rub vicks on our chest and throat and that knocked me out. ;)
I worry about using mucinex & cough suppresants... because coughing does help the junk break up and by coughing you get rid of it. In April of last year, I started to get sick, so I took a few over the counter antihistamines & cough suppresant medicine and ended up with all that mucous mess stuck in my chest, the doc said I had bronchitis with possible pneumonia, uuughhh. Ever since then I am more cautious of what I take. Just bringing it up in case it may help someone else. Good luck and hope you are all healthy soon! :D

Mucinex breaks all that gunk up and causes you to spit it out. Gross I know, but it forces it out of you instead of suppressing it!
