I have a very hard time believing they can do this!!!!!! a friend of mine saw something about this on a news program at the gym....so I looked it up and here is one of the links I found. it's absurd!!!!!! is this for real????? http://junkfoodscience.blogspot.com/...m-will-be.html |
Hmm..are they going to stop selling cigarettes to people with lung cancer and alcohol to alcoholics, too? |
I read that on the net yesterday! I thought the samething. People should be able to eat and be fat or not eat and be skinny. It should be their choice no one's else's. |
I could see something like that being passed. It is just the direction Our Country is going |
It's for real It's on the AP wires -- it's true  -- but it will never be law -- shoot look at all the FAT politicians!!! http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080204/D8UJNSQ01.html Miss. Law Would Ban Serving Obese Diners Email this Story Feb 4, 4:04 PM (ET) By EMILY WAGSTER PETTUS JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A state lawmaker wants to ban restaurants from serving food to obese customers - but please, don't be offended. He says he never even expected his plan to become law. "I was trying to shed a little light on the number one problem in Mississippi," said Republican Rep. John Read of Gautier, who acknowledges that at 5-foot-11 and 230 pounds, he'd probably have a tough time under his own bill. More than 30 percent of adults in Mississippi are considered it obese, according to a 2007 study by the Trust for America's Health, a research group that focuses on disease prevention. The state House Public Health Committee chairman, Democrat Steve Holland of Plantersville, said he is going to "shred" the bill. "It is too oppressive for government to require a restaurant owner to police another human being from their own indiscretions," Holland said Monday. The bill had no specifics about how obesity would be defined, or how restaurants were supposed to determine if a customer was obese. Al Stamps, who owns a restaurant in Jackson, said it is "absurd" for the state to consider telling him which customers he can't serve. He and his wife, Kim, do a bustling lunch business at Cool Al's, which serves big burgers - beef or veggie - and specialty foods like "Sassy Momma Sweet Potato Fries." "There is a better way to deal with health issues than to impose those kind of regulations," Al Stamps said. "I'm sorry - you can't do it by treating adults like children and telling them what they can and cannot eat." |
I was SHOCKED when I read this on CNN today! |

I could see them start telling restaurants what they can put on their menus. (only healthy food) That would be kinda doing the same thing |
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! This just pisses me RIGHT OFF! I am lucky enough that I wouldnt be declined anywhere. But where the HELL does this IDIOT get off thinking that will pass??? That is the most ridiculous assinine thing Ive EVER heard! restaurants would go out of business!! would anyone want to go out to eat knowing they will get weighed before they even walk in?? I wouldn't!!! Id rather eat at home! he'll destroy economy!! Arrrrgggg What an IDIOT!!! I can see the government stopping all benefits to those on disability for obescity when there is no medical condition that made them that way. I can see obese people having higher copays than others bc of the strain they are putting on their health and the medical insurance industry. BUT Even THOSE things I think are obnoxious also! *sorry* ranting and venting... :) |
As if we don't have bigger (no pun intended) problems. Kinda funny though! :p |
Using a scale to determine BMI is highly questionable. Its not very correct. Using that system Arnold Swartznegger(sp) would be obese and not allowed to eat. It sounds bad but if you can get yourself to the reasturant and pay for the food you should be able to eat it. What are they gonna do next search our grocery baskets for junk food? |
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life! The guy said he didn't expect his bill to be passed, but what if it had? He is a moron for even thinking up something like that. Why don't we just jump almost a century back in time and ban black people from eating at restaurants too? Its totally absurd. When they stop selling ciggaretts, alchohol, the war is over, we have a back up when we run out of oil, gas prices go down, the mass of foreclosures are under control, education is 100% everywhere, no one is starving on the streets, and no children/spouses/animals are being abused, then our government can have time to think up idiotic bills to propose. A class of 5th graders could do a better job leading our country. |

Well, it seems they just keep taking freedoms away, one by one. This is ridiculous and seems prejudicial. |

Megan you ARE very wise :) I agree, this nation has MUCH bigger fish to fry (haha pun INTENDED) than to deal with something as assinine as that. **SIGH** This really bothers me. I thought about this ALL last night! I wondered about people's responses to it. I thought about that 'move to the back of the bus' Rosa Parks thing, and whats the difference? How can a country "ONE NATION under GOD..." divide its people by obese or not categories? I realize this guy wanted an extreme reaction, but honestly I know obesity is a problem in our nation and is taking a toll on people healthwise and the insurance industry as well, but there HAS to be other ways to handle it. I think more FREE programs for those that want help, educate people on how to eat right, encourage exercise (tax write off maybe for a membership?). (everything costs the almighty dollar and people can't squeeze MORE from their paychecks with the cost of everything on the rise so high) Also being single (the divorce rate is so high now) its almost always cheaper and easier for ONE person to just go through a fast food drive thru than cook and eat good healthy food. If you think about it, every action has sooooo many reactions and affects sooooo many areas of our lives, its amazing how it all fits together. Would you link obesity to divorce? However when looking at the big pic and men and women that once had a wife/husband who cooked OR they cooked for 2 or more people suddenly are alone and not wanting to cook for one, so they eat out. With the price of groceries, sometimes its easier to get a meal somewhere, its prepared, no mess, ready to eat and with portion sizes being so out of control, they usually have leftovers to make 2 meals out of one. So they do. Maybe Gov can regulate PORTION sizes! Something like that... I dunno... I just do not see this as the solution to the problem. its ridiculous! :thumbdown  :( |
