WOW! Those are gorgeous! Tell her to send the next one to GA! :D |
Wow Jenn! Those are so cute! Do you get them??? |
Oh Jenn they are just beautiful. Wow your grandmother really does beautiful work. I had a grandmother who made patchwork quilts from scraps of material. I still have one that she made for my son's crib 47yrs ago! I have it wrapped in a cotton pillow case but dumb me as a young mother I used it for him and it was washed repeatedly. I never thought to just save it. Does she sell them? |
Ohhhh...the quilts are beautiful!!!! I love the butterfly one!!!!! My Grandmother is 89 and still quilts. I probably have 6 or 7 that she has made me. (she has made 100's over the years...everyone in my huge family has lots of her quilts) Thanks for sharing!!!! |
Yes, she sells them (occassionally, as she isn't able to do a whole lot)...I always get them too! (my daughter and I, that is). She has made quilts all of her life....all kinds of patterns, etc. I have a double wedding ring that she gave me for my wedding, but I used it and used it and it isn't looking very good right now. The others, we will occassionally use them for something, but they are normally stored. I have been looking for a tall old ladder (our living room walls are 26ft tall) and I am wanting to use it to display the quilts --- I have seen that done in an antique store and loved that idea! I can't even count how many quilts (and other handmade goodies) I have from her....but I love it...I always tell her...if you are able, I would rather have something made by you than store bought. |
Oh my daughter would be in 7th heaven. She wants a girly quilt soo bad. Those are cute. I love butterflies. |
Im so jealous! I love those quilts! I love to go to Trades Day or garage sales to find old quilt pieces so pillows can be made or wall hangings! If you ever have a quilt that you are going to piece -- let me know!!!! |
Those are beautiful. |
they are gorgeous! |
Those quilts are GORGEOUS!!! You are so lucky to have them! My grandma made me the doll quilt when I was a little girl - some 50 years ago - and I still have it. That quilt is my first memory of my bed. I also have a small butterfly quilt that she made. She had pieced together about 12 blocks before she died but didn't finish it. My aunt took her butterfly pieces and made a small quilt out of them and I have it now too. I also have a crazy quilt comforter that is made mostly from material my mom used to make my clothes. I was in college before I owned a piece of store bought clothes. My grandma made a comforter out of the material scrapes after my mom made my clothes. It is so much fun to look at it and think about the clothes I wore as a young adolescent. I have about 10 different quilts that my grandma or my mom have made. They are so beautiful, I love them so much. Your quilts are precious. It is a dying art. Most quilts are machine stitched now. Our grandmothers stitched most of their quilts by hand. The women in my tiny little hometown still have a quilt set up at the community center and they quilt on it when they come in. When they finish one, someone else brings in another to be quilted. It is so cool! Thanks for the memories!!! :) |

Those are beautiful. I remember as a young girl my grandmother and greatgrandmother with their quilting rack in front of a wood burning stove. I have about 7 or 8 of them. Of course, they aren't in good shape 'cause we used them when I was little, but I still have them. They are close to 60 years old now. |

Aren't those memories just the BEST! I remember those quilt racks too, set up in my grandma's and my aunt's living rooms. I also remember begging to quilt and occasionally they would let me quilt a little bit and then they would tease me that when grandma would put the quilt on the bed, that grandpa would get his toenail caught in my stitches because they were so BIG  |
Wow, those are beautiful. My grandma (who has since passed) made me a blanket when I was little (it has dinosaurs in some of the squares :p) and it has been through it! I love it! She was going to make me another one but never got around to it. :( |
Very beautiful!! Your grandmother sounds like an amazing lady! |
Those are beautiful Jenn! She did a wonderful job! I love the butterfly one.. I actually have one like that but the quilt is Red. instead of the blue like your grandmothers! an elderly friend of ours gave it to me before she died. mom and i we're helping take care of her! |
I am in Awe ... of anyone who can design and produce such beauty by hand. I never had anyone in my family who had this type of talent and I sure wish that I would have learned years ago. Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to sew something so lovely to be handed down from generation to generation? Thank you so much for sharing. |
wow very nice she did a great job:thumbup: |
Things like this, always make me miss my Grandma that much more, there wasn't anything that woman couldn't do..she could cook(owned quite a few restaruants in her life), cut hair, play organ, piano, housebreak a dog in a day..sew.you name it, she could do it..:( Does your grandma sell those? If so, find out how much she sells them for..I would love to have one.. |
Those are beautiful quilts! They will always be so special because they were made by your grandmother. I just love quilts. I have be given some that my grandmother made, she has since passed away. I have one displayed in my entry way hanging. I also have a very old quilt that my great grandmother made. I just love old stuff but especially things that have always been in the family. I have collect a lot of family things(antiques) though the years. I have my grandparents bedroom set it is over 70 years old now and in beautiful condition!!!! |
Very beautiful. I especially love the butterflies. |
They are beautiful! I am the holder of my Grandmother and Great Grandmother's quilts and I treasure them. I noticed there is a Yo Yo pillow in the left corner. I've been making those for years :) |
Thanks everyone! She use to make the quilts (and other things) ALL the time and sold them in craft stores, craft fairs, etc. She even put them in the county fair all the time. BUT at her age right now...she doesn't sell many of them. Her sister in Washington sends her money to make quilts so she can give them as gifts..and that is about all she does regarding selling them. I got a lot of the stuff she makes...I don't ask or anything...she just gives them..and I love them! She is wanting to start making things for my daughter for her to keep in her cedar chest (hope chest)...that way, she will have things especially made for her by her great grandmother! |
