I agree. Whenever I walk my babies, I am always cautious around other dogs. I was walking them the other night and a lady was walking by w/ her Poodle and it LUNGED at my dogs. We had to cross the street because her Poodle just went crazy, barking and trying to attack my babies. I also remember a time when I first got Codie (before I had my Katie girl) and I was walking him. A guy was about 2 blocks away walking a extremely large pit bulls and his dogs just "sensed" my dog - it was very eerie - and the guy started yelling at me from 2 blocks away "pick up your dog! hurry! pick up your dog!" because his 2 dogs charged at us and dragged the guy but I was fast and grabbed Codie and ran into a store. But the dogs were barking outside the door and the guy was having trouble dragging them away. This guy obviously knew his dogs had a vicious streak and I actually felt sorry for the dogs ... how did they get that way?

But there are other pits and big dogs that LOVE my dogs. My landlady has a Rott/Lab mix named April who is CRAZY in love w/ my dogs. They sleep outside int he yard together and are always playing and kissing. So it's not the breed or the size (in my opinion) but the way the dog is treated and raised. I just feel sorry for these dogs because they are the vicitims of human abuse. It's so sad.

LOL. I like this comment. People used to always cross the street when I would walk my rotties so that they didn't have to walk past them. But they were the sweetest dogs. I miss my rotties terribly.


They look vicious dont they?? My male (pictured with Recon) was 190 pounds. He was my older sons best friend in this whole world. His name was Ogre. I got him when I was pregnant with my older son. SO they got to grow up with each other. Ogre would have protected me and my sons with his life if he had to. He was the best dog on earth.

My female, Peyton, was also a wonderful dog. She didn't have a mean bone in her body. Either.

Thank you. I miss them both terribly. Yes most rotties have that head tilt. My mail used to tilt his head back and forth when you talked to him. Like he was really listening to you. And Peyton used to do it when she was posing for the camera.

I completely agree with you about being careful around any dog you don't know. I have always warned my kids not to trust any dog we don't know well no matter the size.

I was chatting to a woman who owned a Pittbull,she says they are the best dogs,you can get,yeah right,obviously doesnt know what shes talking about :eek:

She probably does know what she is talking about and is saying that because she has a wonderful dog. Pits are great dogs. I have one that lives right next door to me and she is a wonderful dog. I watch her when her mom and dad go out of town all the time.

Yes, the story IS SAD...But AGAIN, ANY BREED CAN KILL...IF the dog was a Yorkie (the dog that did the killing/injuring) would anyone be so up in arms about it?? Because its a PITBULL right away THEY ARE KILLER DOGS...

Sorry if you do not think the woman you were talking to knew what she was talking about when she said PITBULLS were the best dogs...But IN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with this breed YES THEY ARE ONE OF THE BEST!

I just have to ask, if the dog that were injured were say a cocker, a cairn terrier or any other breed but a yorkie would we be all in an uproar about it?? I honestly dont think that any of us would have ever heard anything about the insident if it weren't a yorkie.

Pit bulls do have a bad rap. As do rotties. But I would trust my kids with a rottie or a pit that I knew. I can see not trusting any breed of dog that you dont know. But in my experience with dogs and working with dogs all my life the ones that have given me the most trouble are golden retrievers and labs. I have a scar on my leg that required 21 stitches from being bitten by a golden retriever. I also have severe nerve damage in my right thumb from being bitten by a lab.

My son who was 6 at the time was walking with my brother down the street and had a lab walk right up to him, tail wagging and bit him on the arm, he will now have a scar for the rest of his life.

My other son went to his little friends house last year and got bit by their cocker spaniel.

So it isn't just pit bulls that are a problem. Its a poor mentality in my opinion. I work with dogs on a daily basis. I have my vet tech degree, I have worked as an animal control officer and now I am a dog groomer.
