Have you heard of this? My friend got a small poodle from a breeder in Lexington, KY. The first pup she picked supposedly died and she got another in it's place. The breeder let the pup go early, at 7 weeks, she brought her home on Friday, she never got perky, Sunday she was sick, took her to the vet on Monday and they started IV's but didn't know what was really wrong. The pup died on Wednesday. They sent it off for an autopsy and it showed that the pup died from too much fat in it's liver. Any idea what causes that? The breeder has offered her another pup but she really doesn't want a third from that breeder and is trying to get her money back. I've never heard of it before and just wondered if anyone else had. Thanks! |
My gosh, 2 pups would be very hard to get over. I haven't heard of this problem with the liver. Very sad. |
I have never heard of that! But I don;t blame her for not wanting another puppy from this breeder. Take your money and run! |

The first pup died before my friend even got her. I think this lady is running a mill, the second pup was suppose to be from a different litter. She said when she went to look at the first pup the woman just brought in a bunch of puppies to one room and told her their prices. When she called a week later to check on the pup she was told it had died but she could come pick out another. Same thing, pups were broughr out, when she asked to see the parents, 2 poodles were brought out. She was told that the dogs were kept upstairs and would get upset if people went up there, it was easier to bring the pups to a 'viewing room'. Sounds fishy to me. |
Doesn't sit right with me neither. But here might be a reason. My friend who has a 4 week old puppy, had to start feeding him herself, because mom didn't seem interested anymore. She was feeding him puppy chow mixed with milk and then puree'd in a blender. She brought the puppy to her vet just to make sure all was good and that he remained healthy. She was told to cut out the milk bcause it was too much fat for him. Just a thought! |
I have always heard never give cows milk to a puppy, could this be why? I know my friend was not giving that pup anything other than her puppy food and nutrical, she was so worried something might happen! I wouldn't doubt that the breeder was giving the pups milk! Thanks! |
Maxx I was getting a puppy (Maxx) from a breeder- who I later found out had over 200 adult dogs (Puppy Mill!!)- and he supposedly died (some know this story :( ) and they offered me another pup and even sent me pics of the little males they had but I took many YTers advice and got my money back RIGHT AWAY!! Called them personally and bugged them until I knew my refund was on its way. I was so hurt and also afraid that another puppy from them may also become ill. My advice would be to get the money back, as not to give the breeders yet another chance at causing more heartache. The first time hurts sooo bad, I couldn't imagine it happening a second, or giving them an opportunity for it to happen a third time. My thoughts are with your friends. |

OMG!!! 2 babies?!?!?! I've never heard of that but I guess that anything can happen. I don't blame her for not wanting to take another chance. She must be devestated! :( |

pup I wonder what she was feeding them? Maybe it was soem type of metobolic problem that prevented theliver from processing fats..odd. |
Update. The breeder does not want to return the money because of the contract so my friend is having her lawyer contact them. In the meantime, because her money was tied up at the breeder she had not been looking for a pup, also her heart was so broken, a mutual friend of ours does some rescue work and asked her to foster a little fella she had gotten! He is so cute! A little white fluffly guy about 4-5 months with the bluest eyes you have ever seen! Well, my friend agreed and is falling in love with Ralphie, we think she's going to give him a forever home! |
Fat liver (in humans)can have several causes ex: congenital metabolic desease(s) of glucogene, galactose, tirosine, homocystine... Ethanol,some drugs like phenobarbital, vitamin deficience,low protein diet, low essencials faty acids...in most cases it has very complexe causes. I would not want another dog from that bloodline...just in case. The Vet is the best adviser. |
