Migraines... Does anyone else on here experience them? How severe are they? How oftem do you get them? How long do they last? What have you done to find out what is causing them and how to prevent them. And what do you do to help reduce the pain? Well I guess let me start. I have been getting migraines for the last 10+ years. As with each passing day the severity worsen. The can last anywhere from 2 hrs to 2 weeks. And while I am having an one of those episode, I am unable to function. I am extremely sensitive to light and sounds. It makes me sick to my stomach. For last several years I have gotten, MRI's, Catscans, seen the chiropractor, and have tried many different kinds of medication. But nothing is working. I read somewhere that a possible forehead lift may reduce or get rid of migraines. Have anyone done this? If so what are you thoughts? I am at my wits end. I will be 27 next Saturday...and if everything goes as it should. I still have many years to go before I croak. But I don't think I can handle the pain for the next 30-40 years. I rather die. Well I think I vented enough. Thanks for any suggestion or advice. |
I've had migraines since I was 5 - I am now 40; they were at their worst in my 20s. If I get one now, I take Fioricet - and it works GREAT, once I get it in my system. I tend to wake up w/ my migraines - so they're at full speed as soon as I'm up - so something that works on pain is key for me. Have you considered Topamax for preventative? If you're getting them that often, it would seem that you need the type that prevents them, not just treats them. The side effects of Topamax are pretty bearable. |
my mom is the same way her doctor suggested botox in her fore head I'll ask my mom more about it her migraines and what she does about them ok sorry i'm not much help at this moment but i'll talk to my mom today ok sorry that you have to go threw that |
i am on topamax...but i guess since it is a preventive....it doesn't help me much because i already have a migraine... i have tried imitrex but it makes me nauseated... |

Have you been diagnosed as having migraines? The reason I ask is because I had really bad (what I thought was) migraines. I went to the doctor about it and was diagnosed as having tension headaches. She told me that a lot of time, the medicine you take actually CAUSES the headache. I forget the technical term she used. I stopped taking everything and they have dramatically decreased! When I actually have them I take ibuprofen (as she suggested) and they go away pretty quickly. While I still get them occasionally, they aren't nearly as bad. Just a suggestion! :) |

I feel for you. I get bad headaches but I only had a migraine once and it lasted days and I finally had to go to the hospital and get a shot for it. The doctor said I could get shots that I could give myself for them but thankfully I never had another one. I really feel for you and others that get them because I have never forgot how miserable I was when I had it |

My mother, my aunt and myself all suffer from them. I have had them all my life. So bad that I would go home and sleep from 6pm until the next morning to get rid of it. I could not do much more. I found out when I was really small that it was the milk I was drinking every morning. I was lactose intollerant. My mother and aunt live on 222's and they say it works for them. I use to take tylenol until I was about 18 and found out that advil gets rid of them much faster. (15mins) In my 20's I found that I was getting them from the computer screen. Its weird but I got a set of glasses that don't help me see better, but I don't get migraines when I have them on and use the computer. I only wear them to use the computer. In the last few years I was getting migrains almost every day. It was so bad and actually started feeling different that I went to the doctor to get it looked at again. They said I had high blood pressure and put me on medication to help with that. Since then I have not had another migraine. I doubt that was the cause of them my whole life but for the last 6 months I have not had one so something is right. Some things to do is keep a record of things you do in a day. And refer to it when you have a migraine. Things like what you ate, what you did (excercise for ex), the weather (sometimes I think this affects me) watching tv in certain light. Good luck with it. I know the pain. |
'botox' is good for migraines? i would think they may cause more stress |
