Want More Hair VOLUME -- Human Hair, Not Yorkie Hair LOL! I would like to have a little bit more volume by the FRONT of my hair -- the bang area. I don't actually have bangs because my hair is long but those are the areas of hair I'd like to see with a little more lift. I do NOT want to tease my hair because that is sooo bad for your hair and causes breakage. I don't use anything in my hair right now except a little bit of leave-in conditioner but I only apply that to the ends of my hair (so that they don't burn or dry out when I blow dry my hair) and I never apply it to my scalp and roots. I also know that blowing the pieces you want to give more volume to STRAIGHT UP in the air is really good for volume and I do that right now. It does work but only for a few minutes. After about 20 minutes or so, my hair falls again. My hair isn't super flat or anything but I'd just like a little itty bit more volume ... not toooo much, don't want to bring back the 80's lolol Can anyone recommend a GOOD product that won't leave my hair feeling sticky or icky? Like if it's mousse, what brand exactly? Or if it's a voluminizing spray, what brand? Please be specific. :p Thanks!!! :D |
jen, dont know of any products right now, but i just got mine cut and i had her wisp the front bangs and layer it a bit so it has volume. i also wisp it to one side.. yours would look great like that |

It's really just the front of my hair that needs help. I don't know why but the rest of my hair has a lot of volume and body to it and I love it. I don't know what happened to the front lol :D I also have really thick hair; I don't know if that has anything to do with it. |
cant wait to see pictures of you.. when i saw you jen your hair was short... i say get it layered and angled.. and use a real big round brush to blow dry it with . blow dry under the bang |
Have you tried blow drying it upside down? Or maybe getting some root lifter cream stuff, or something? Wow..I was a lot of help haha A pic would definitely help! |

i believe it jen |
I use dove volume & shine (i think) mousse. My hair is short & really thin, but it works great for me. No sticky or crunchy. |
Ive been doing hair 17 yrs and I use Kenra's Root Lift spray...Spray on the roots then blowdry with round brush,,, Sometimes its all in the way you blowdry...the technique gives you volume. And yes you may have to use a little bit of hairspray to get it to hold. |
2 Attachment(s) Although my hair is short and thus, easier to "lift", it would lay FLAT against my head if I didn't use Jonathan Create Root Volume Brushable Lifting Spray. You can get it at Ulta or Sephora. It is absolutely the best product I have tried for lifting my hair. I spray it on when my hair is wet and I blow dry. Then I spray it on (lightly) after drying my hair and rub it into the roots. Then I follow with a bit of Shaper hairspray and I use my hands to get my hair to fluff and look messy (my style) I don't think the Sebastain Shaper Plus hairspray is sticky at all. Using the spray will keep my hair "up" longer - but the Johathan product will do the trick if you absolutely don't want to use any spray - it's just that I think it stays "up" longer with the spray. Here are a couple of pix of my hair - the second one I just took. I fixed my hair at 7:00AM and it is now 8:16PM - it does not look as good as it did this morning, but it still has some "lift" |

That is SUCH a good hairstyle on you! You look so cute! I love it! |
Thank you so much! I love it too and it is sooooo easy! :) |
First....teasing....does not cause hair breakage! LOL! I have an awesome teading brush that works wonders for my clients! Its the best 5 bucks you will ever spend! I have to tease my hair every day to get lift!!!!!! I could not live without it, and now my clients feel the same! We have sold 1,000's of them! I absolutely love AQUAGE Root Lifting Volumizing Mousse! Its the best! And also AQUAGE Thickening Spray Gel! Cocktail the 2 together, use a great round brush, take small sections to round brush and really over direct your hair! Tease with the Teaser, and finish with AQUAGE Finishing Spray! When all is said and done using allt hose products, at the end of the day, you can literally brush thru your hair, and run your fingers thru it! And its still silky soft! Its awesome! In fact....I LOVE all AQUAGE products!!!!!!!!! |
Ok... i havent see a pic of your hair yet... so this may not be for you BUT... my boss gets a root only perm... this gives her body to lift her hair... I dunno :scratchhe ... just passin it along |
I use matrix volume shampoo and conditioner for colored hair. I shampoo my hair first and leave it in while I shower. I use redken #10 mousse (called guts) just on the roots to give me lift. I use a round brush to help give me the lift I want then use #23 redken hair spray...it's not sticky at all! I don't like that sticky feeling either. |
When my hair was that length I would take 3 velco rollers & starting at the crown i would section, roll back & secure all the way to the front, looking at the head it would be three on top in a row- spray the roots with hairspray & let dry while I did my makeup. If I was in a bit for time you can take a big round brush section of the front & pull it very tight around the round brush going straight out in front of the head concentrate the blow dryer on the roots at first or blowdry it the opposite way you part it & then when done part it right & smooth a little. Hope I make sense there is times I can't put into typing what I'm wanting to say ;) LOL! |
I use mouse and dry my hair upside down. Maybe you need some layers put in your hair. |

If you tease like they all did in the 80's YES! But take smaller sections, overdirect them, and only tease from the scalp to about a 3rd of the way up! When its time to comb or brush it out....thats when most people tend to damage their hair. Never just brush thru the teasing! Spray a little spray shine in the teased sections, and pick it out gently! Most people just tear thru it! Oh...and Velcro rollers are great too!!!! Love them! If you have a Sally's beauty Suplly by you, you can get a whole box of them for like 20 bucks! Aquage is a strictly professional line! They stand behind their salons and will not sell to Chain stores! Not even Trade Secret! Its awesome! So maybe google it, or go to Aquage.com, and I am pretty sure they have a page for you to put your zip code in, and they will find a salon near you who carries it! If not....let me know...I have tons of it....I will mail ya some! ;) Good Luck! |
