Help with math! I have my math mid-term tomorrow, and I'm finishing up a mandatory review sheet. Usually I'm fine with word problems, but I've read this one 10 times and I cannot figure out what it wants me to do. can someone help me? Laura Shawhan has a pumpkin patch with 9 rows of pumpkin plants. There are 5 rows with 91 pumpkins each. How many pumpkins does Laura have? Thanks so much! |
What math are you in?? math.com may help |
Hmmm...I would say she has 455 pumpkins but she's 4 rows short of a full patch! :D |

Hmm...do you think a sentence might have been left out? I don't see how you could solve that problem with only that information given |

Seriously though...I know nothing about math but I agree with MyFairLacy...I think something has been left out of the equasion. |
Maybe a trick question? The other rows of pumpkin plants haven' t produced actual pumpkins yet?? I was useless at math, this is just old age talking:D :D Sheilagh |

First it says she has 9 Rows... Ok so here is 9 Rows of Pumkins O O O O O O O O O Then 5 Rows has 91 Pumkins O-------------------------------------------------------- 91 O-------------------------------------------------------- 91 O-------------------------------------------------------- 91 O-------------------------------------------------------- 91 O-------------------------------------------------------- 91 Total 455 Pumkins BUT...She it says she had 9 ROWS So Here are the remaining rows but with only 1 pumkin in it O O O O So 455 plus 4 EQUALS 459 I'll look at it again to see if I can come up with another logic but thats what I have so far.... |

I don't think it can be solved as is; there should be more info, unless it is just asking you to write an expression, but as it is, it will feature two variables... |
Did you know...that I feel like a serious idiot right now? haha. I just reread the problem and I left out a part of the sentence. Laura Shawhan has a pumpkin patch with 9 rows of pumpkin plants. There are 5 rows with 91 pumpkins each and 4 rows with 101 pumpkins each. How many pumpkins does Laura have? I'm sorry! its late. Does this help? |
Ok let me delete this logic since you post an update |

5(91) + 4(101) = 455 + 404 = Answer = 859 |

=(5 x 91) + (4 x 101) =455 + 404 =859 |

They're usually pretty specific in those problems. They design them to trick people! |
Thank you so much guys! I feel so dumb haha. You guys are even helpful for getting me out of 9th grade! You do everything. :p Be on standby, because I'm sure I'll have some more questions to throw out there. ;) |

Assuming pumkin plants and pumkins are the same thing ;) |

If Rusty is anywhere around, she will have ZERO pumpkins. What's your teacher's name? I'm going to tell her you cheated. |

I think it's great that you can come on here for help Megan! Plus, it makes us all use our brains for something other than feeding, walking, snuggling, and otherwise living for our yorkies :) |

LOL. A while back, a young YTer needed help with a resume and cover letter. A couple of us helped out, and she ended up getting the job! Of course, that's the last I saw of her. I feel so used. |
Just checking in to see how you did on that test with the pumpkins? I hope all went well Megan! :) |
