Help with math!
 
I have my math mid-term tomorrow, and I'm finishing up a mandatory review sheet. Usually I'm fine with word problems, but I've read this one 10 times and I cannot figure out what it wants me to do. can someone help me?

Laura Shawhan has a pumpkin patch with 9 rows of pumpkin plants. There are 5 rows with 91 pumpkins each. How many pumpkins does Laura have?

Hmmm...I would say she has 455 pumpkins but she's 4 rows short of a full patch! :D

I'm in 9th grade, algebra I. I came into my school a few months after everyone else had started (I transfered from the votech school because I didn't like their education). so I never really learned this. Thanks for the website suggestion! :D

Maybe a trick question? The other rows of pumpkin plants haven' t produced actual pumpkins yet?? I was useless at math, this is just old age talking:D :D

I would have to Disagree......Ok I am not Math Whiz either but in college I was a College Algebra Student Tutor....I would say its 459 pumkins here is my reasoning...

Except it doesn't say that the other 4 rows have any pumpkins in them...

I don't think it can be solved as is; there should be more info, unless it is just asking you to write an expression, but as it is, it will feature two variables...

455 + 404 =
Answer = 859

Well that would be 91 x 5 and 101 x 4 and add the answers together.

Gosh I never would have thought of that, but that would be perfect logic for a trick question

=(5 x 91) + (4 x 101)
=455 + 404
=859

Yea but it said 9 rows so you have to have ONE pumkin in it to make a row ;)

Unless it's assuming those plants didn't have any pumpkins. Because the original one said 9 rows of pumpkin plants and then 5 rows with 91 pumpkins. LOL :)

They're usually pretty specific in those problems. They design them to trick people! :rolleyes:

Well you see that was bringing me up to my other Logic.........it didn't state that 5 of the rows was out of the 9 rows :eyebrow2: so then my other logic to that would of been 91 x 5 then add 9 more pumkins for a total of 464

Assuming pumkin plants and pumkins are the same thing ;)

It's not cheating...it's resourcefulness, Mike!

I think it's great that you can come on here for help Megan! Plus, it makes us all use our brains for something other than feeding, walking, snuggling, and otherwise living for our yorkies :)

LOL. A while back, a young YTer needed help with a resume and cover letter. A couple of us helped out, and she ended up getting the job!

Of course, that's the last I saw of her. I feel so used.
