Paypal screwed me! Well, most of you know about the camera that I sold to someone in the UK and he says the auto focus did not work so he filed a dispute with paypal. Him and I had come to an agreement, that I would refund him $25. Yesterday paypal took $215 out of my checking account and now my checking account is all screwed up and I'm in the hole! I called them almost in tears and they tell me that the money is in a "temp hold" account. I told them how now my check account in in the hole and I'm going to have all these bank fee's. They did not care! I'm done with ebay and paypal! This is going to cost me more then what I sold the camera for. Paypal did not even contact me or anything when they just took my money out of my account. I'm literally in tears! Please be aware when buying or selling on ebay and using paypal! |
OMG thats terrible!!!!I AM SO SORRY. HUGS |

Oh my gosh! Missy, I am so sorry girl! I can totally feel your anger and frustration just by reading your posts - and if I were in your shoes, I would be feeling the EXACT same way! :( So the problem is that PayPal IS going to return the money to you, correct? It is just going to take a while for that to happen and in the meantime they already took the money out of your checking account and it overdrew you? And now you will be charged overdraft fee's by the bank? Is that right?? Good Lord I would be FURIOUS!! Do you think that if you called your bank and explained the problem, that they would take off the fees? Or at least SOME of the fees? Since this whole situation is really out of your hands and you have no control over it. I don't know if you happen to use Wells Fargo by any chance, but my sister does and I remember once she got totally screwed up at the bank over something...I can't even remember what happened now it's been so long ago but they took off almost ALL of the fees she was being charged (except one or two I think). |

That's a good idea- banks can be very understanding if you just ask. I have an account I used to use for a business that I no longer have. I still have the account and just use it for PayPal transactions. The problem is no money ever goes into the account unless I remember to do a transfer from our primary account. Well once I wasn't paying attention and way overdrew on it. I had been charged quite a bit in daily fees. My husband called and they withdrew all of the charges. Maybe your bank will work with you. |
I am really sorry this has happened. |
good idea, I will call my bank and explain it to them, worst they will say is no. I'm just so mad, it seems like when you get a few steps ahead and then your pulled right back down. |
oh Missy am so sorry this happened to you. It sure sucks when they can just take out that money from someone's account . . . not fair. |
That is just HORRIBLE!!! And I am sorry you are going thru this mess!!! I definitely would talk w/ your bank....I know with our bank....they pretty much bend over backwards to help their customers...course, it is a small town bank and most customers have been there for ages.......it is worth a shot though! I recently sold our iPhone on eBay for $500 and I have not touched that money yet...no way...not until everything is good......feedback left, etc. I don't want to chance it! |
Missy..I am going through the EXACT same thing with paypal/ebay..in fact, I just PMed you! |
Missy~ I am so sorry that you are going through this...what a mess! I had to file a dispute with Paypal last year and it didn't end well either. It was a girl that I had bought from several times in the past and she seemed so sweet. She made boutique custom clothing for children so I always loved buying from her. Anyway, the last time that I asked her to us some things, she said that she had sent all of it but never did. Paypal sided with me but what good did that do! I never received a dime back because they said that they were unable to retrieve the funds to reimburse me. I guess she closed that account....I don't know. She also sold on ebay and I noticed at the same time that I was having problems with her, so were others until ebay suspended her. So much for Paypal, huh? I hope you can get this all straightened out!! :( Tammy |
Missy...I can't remember the first thread you started, but didn't this guy leave you positive feedback?? Shouldn't this and the fact that he had the camera for awhile before filing a disput, be enough for eBay and PayPal to see that the item was in good working condition when it was received by him? I don't understand that if someone leaves positive feedback and then NOT file a dispute for weeks after receiving it, that they will side with him?? It blows my mind.......anyway, just thinking outloud! |
Missy, sorry your going threw such stressfull times with pay pal. I hope it get's worked out soon. |
Oh that just plain stinks. I hope your bank will waive the fees. Had you notified dispute resolution of your agreement with the buyer within their time period? I think they give you 10 days to respond to the dispute. Not that that helps any in this situation... |
You may want to consider over-draft protection with your bank too. Mine is linked to a credit card...no fees. If my account were ever overdrawn...the amount would be charged to the credit card. |

Man, this just ain't RIGHT:( I'm so sorry! Hopefully they'll pull their heads OUT of their butts long enough to realize that that guy is a scammer:mad: |

I have emailed paypal are agreement to solve this. I do have overcharge protection, but they still charge me a fee for each item that comes in for no funds. |
I feel bad for you...my friend had the exact same experience as you did and now I dont touch the money in my paypal account until everything has cleared and feedback is left. Dawn |
That sounds very stressful! I am so sorry you are having to deal with this! :( |
I'm sorry you're going through this. Scammers always seem to get their way if they lie enough :( Hope it all works out! |
My heart goes out to you, I've been there. Do a search on paypal and you'll see many have been there! From now keep a different bank account just for ebay/paypal. I don't use the dreaded paypal anymore, there are ways around them. Just know it is NOT your fault, they are basically stealing from you but there isn't much you can do about it. :( |
I would think they would have to have a court order to tie up your personal funds. Guess not, but that is just not right. How long untill he comlained- do they have a time limit??? |
oh no! I'm so sorry they messed up your account! I was telling my hubby yesterday to be careful with ebay. Lately is getting full of scammers. |
