Gender selection? We have two boys and have always set our limit at 2. However, my husband has two friends whose wives both just had girls and we had already kind of discussed possibly trying one more?. . my husband said to me yesterday "if I knew for a fact the next one would be a girl, I would say lets have another now". I know he wants a "daddy's lil girl" and I would love to have a girl, I was just made to have a girl..lol. I have been looking at different "gender selection" methods... I was wondering if anyone has ever looked into this kind of thing before? If so... did you use any of these 'methods'? example... they talk of different diets, positions, hot baths, etc.. for achieving the desired sex of your child. There are links to a few different theories/methods including natural- invasive.. just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with any of these and what the outcome was. thanks, Tina babycenter.com link |
Funny you should ask this. I am a gramma now, but I had 2 boys 2 1/2 years apart. Since I was in a family of 4 brothers and no sisters you can imagine how much I wanted a girl. When my second boy was about 4 we were talking just like you.... If only I knew it would be a girl.. but it wasn't until I got to the point that it really wouldn't matter that we finally decided to try again. I don't remember all of the details, but I know we had to use a thermometer to find out exact ovulation and NOT have intercourse until that time of ovulation. Supposedly it helps to build up more "female making little swimmers" lol All I know is my 3rd was a girl! |
I know you can take a sample of sperm, attack a dye to it, and the X sperm will glow bright than the Y sperm so they can seperate them. It's not 100% effective but it's pretty good. I don't think it's legal in the US though. I know I don't want children now, but a few years ago I used to say if I had a kid it had to be a girl. I also always said that I would do the above method if I was able to...I'd even travel to another country where it was legal. I just know if I did have a kid, it would have to be a girl and I'd do anything I could to make it happen. But, I have no interest in having children now so I guess I won't have to worry about it. I know a lot of people think it's wrong and that you're "playing God" but I would do it if I wanted to choose. And like I said, it's not 100% effective so I guess if God really wants you to have another boy then you would. I don't see the hurt in helping things along a little bit |
I'm right where you are now. Two awesome little boys, and REALLY want a girl. I bought the book by Dr. Shettles and have read it cover to cover several times. We haven't had the guts yet to try it out :p I don't know if we ever will. |
We have two girls (ages 13 and 11) and when they were really small, I used to say I would like another but "only if I could be guaranteed another girl". My husband would say we'd do it again "if we could be guaranteed a boy". He loves the girls but I think deep down all men would love to have a son. He got the best of both worlds though, I think, because both of our girls (one more than the other) are very athletic and love to deer hunt with daddy. ;) Personally I don't see anything wrong with gender selection if all you do is "pick" the sperm you want. It's not like you are aborting the one you don't "want". With that said, I do remember "doing the things you should do" to get a girl when were trying to get pregnant. Supposedly the little boy sperms are a bit slower at swimming so a certain position gives the girls more of a chance than the boys. Not sure if it actually works that way, but I got the girls I wanted! ;) |

I also want a girl if i have kids, i think they are easier to raise and i would loove dressing her up in dresses and bows lol |
We've got 4 boys and 1 girl. We decided to try for another baby and hoped for a girl... well I did anyway, lol. I really wanted my daughter to be able to have a sister. We didn't do any "gender selection" methods, just put it into God's hands. Now we're expecting our 2nd little girl. Regardless of anything, you'll have fun trying! |
I didnt do it but wanted a girl so bad and my 3rd one was a girl |

my aunt had 3 boys and then... adopted a girl :) 100% guaranteed :) |

I've heard of different ways to help "influence" the sex of a baby-timing is one, position is another, caffeine intake can affect it too. But, if you combine any of these different ideas, I bet you have the same old 50/50 chance :) |
